Why doesnt anyone respond or open messages

Hi calguns.net,
I am a new user, not a scam artist. I live in southern California in the inland empire. I am writing this, as so far, i have had nothing but scam artists respond to my inquiries and have been completely ignored by any of the "top ranked" users. Is there something I am missing on getting an actual human response? Does anyone actually sell items here? I cant even get a response from anyone, let alone purchase. No I have not even sent a "Lowball offer" no i didn't ask strange questions. I made it very clear i am not a scammer and want to purchase their pistol and did all the proper etiquette. I sent my contact number, name, asked for ffl preference etc. Does this site really work or is it as bad as it appears so far. Any good advice would be appreciated.

I have used the marketplace once, but I have seem most mention they look at length of membership, participation rate, and itrader rating.

It works fine, sadly the site has been hit with a lot of scammers recently so some people are hesitant to work with people with new accounts or no feedback. I respond to all offers as I remember what it was like to be new. Just keep doing what you are doing and it'll work out. As soon as you have a few positive transactions you'll have better success. I generally won't respond to new users with zero ratings when selling a gun on the marketplace. I've been flaked on more times than I can count. I also won't inquire about a gun for sale if the seller is new with zero ratings.

There's not a lot of respect for a new member over there, especially one that's only been here hours and wants to sell or buy. There's so much fraud going on these days , it's hard to trust somebody.

Why is this posted here? OP may have a legitimate point, but posting in the wrong section is not a step in the right direction.

Maybe the name Kamikaze has something to do with it?

I certainly am not a power user by any stretch, but I have had no issues in the marketplace. Maybe I just lucked out? Silly as it seems, many are suspicious of a low post, iTrade, and feedback score.

Are the people you are contacting close to you? Are you familiar with the items you are interested in? Someone reaching out from SF (I'm in Ventura Co.) or someone asking if a SP101 is semi auto or not could be easily dismissed. I hope this helps.

It's unfortunate, but may take some time to build a reputation as a legitimate buyer/seller on the site due to all the scammers that have popped up with the scarcity/ rise in prices on guns and associated items.

It looks like you just joined a few days ago, so a more relaxed approach may be to your benefit. Scammers always seem pushy and they always tell you they're not a scammer. Sellers of in-demand items will frequently deal with an established member with a good feedback score rather than a new member.

We were all new members at one time, but I can say this site has been an great benefit to the gun-owning community. Be patient and polite and things will work out. Welcome to Calguns.

The fact that quite literally ANYONE can create a CG account makes many of the already current users here paranoid and not trust just anyone, I was lucky that when I tried to make my first purchase on here as a new user, the other person actually responded.

I've bought and sold several items on Marketplace with very good results and a minimum of bad players/scam responses---honestly, I've found almost 100% of people answering ads to be true to their word---my feedback score is 37 with 100% satisfaction, but actually, I've probably done 3+ times that many transactions---I can't think of a better place to sell firearms related items then here on Caguns.net!

Maybe offer to send $100 via PayPal or something to let them know that you are not a scammer.?
If you don’t show, the guy gets the money

I once committed to a deal but ended up getting very sick.
I sent the guy $200 to hold the gun for me til the following week.
Deal went through with no issues

Keep trying and consider doing some smaller value transactions locally to build up iTrader rating, and participating in a thread or two

4 posts, with very recent join date, is a yellow flag for sellers. Don’t take it personally.

Also, depending on the item and pricing, the seller may be overwhelmed with people saying “I’ll take it”

First off, Welcome OP.

Please be a bit patient.. Many of us who use (or used) the marketplace have had a tremendous amount of time wasted by fake accounts and scammers. Unfortunately, when you're new, you'll likely fall into that classification.

The best thing you can do is this - create threads and add posts. Scammers seldom take the time to contribute to discussions and ask questions. This will build your post count which will help to establish your credibility.

Also, it would be a good idea to share ID's on other platforms where you may be well established - like eBay. If you want to buy something, ask the seller to message you through eBay to prove credibility.

As you build your post count, it will be easier to transact in the marketplace, which will build your feedback.

In the last year or so, many members of this forum (WTS / WTB Sections) have been ripped off. Every day a seller or buyer gets contacted by scammers. Some of these scammers are very sophisticated. Some are not. Most (including myself) are understandably suspicious of a new recent member, with zero iTrader feedback or "post" history.

I respectfully suggest, the 1st step in purchasing a gun, or ? from a buyer is to provide your cell # and invite the seller to call you, so both of you can talk. Each of you can ask & answer any questions you each have. From there, hopefully you will be successfully in your efforts.
