Let me start by stating my age, I'll be 68 next month.

My dad bought my first gun when i was hmmm 12, 1966. Christmas of that year.
It was a Ruger 10/22. If i remember correctly it was the second year Ruger produced that rifle. I went to Whitefront, K/mart and bought tons of ammo and hi-cap mags. I still own this very low serial # gun today. And wouid you believe it, I still have 1960s 50 pks of ammo, Needless to say i keep just about everything.

Second gun (Age 14) again my dad bought for me a A sears 1100 i think, pump 12 ga, I still have it also.
Old paper shotgun shells...After that i bought junk, Keltec, Jennings etc. i've learned allot. My list became much larger after that,

Fun Story: In the 1970s, I bought a display Remington autoload 12 ga, paid for it, walked out the door of K/mart with gun in hand,

Bought in 1983. Sold it off years ago My second was a Series 70 Colt 1911, I still have that.

Taking a trip down memory lane

In college the most I could spend was $400 for a handgun. $500 tops. I waited patiently each week for the Sunday Oakland Tribune/ Thursday sports page. That was when Tradersports would advertise their specials.

I finally saw the Browning High power (belgium made) on sale for $399 and headed over there. Waited through their crowd that was at least 2 to 3 people deep across their entire front row.

Sure enough one week later, their Sunday sale in the sports page had a Beretta 92FS for $429. Agh! should have waited. That was my first choice. Two weeks later, Sig P226 for $499. Aghhh!!!! should have waited. Oh well.

One month later the prized wonder nine : Walther P88 for $599. Out of my price range, but that was the one I really wanted.

My first was in 1978. $250 1961 357 Python Blued 6" bbl. Still Have it. Needed a new barrel.

Mini 14 when I was 18, 1985 at Gemco. Left with it that day of course. I think it was $289 I have the price tag somewhere still from the box. Shot the hell out of it, borescoped it recently and rifling is still great.

Story time...What was your very first gun you bought? I remember turning 18 and my dad took me to Big 5 to buy my very first own rifle. I picked out a nice Mosin Nagant M44. I chose it over the longer 91/30 right next to it I just thought it looked cooler. If I remember right it was 79.99 and should've bought a dozen of them. It seems like I'm not alone with the Mosin being a very popular starter gun. I had been shooting the family guns since I was probably 7 years old so it was about time I had my own.

Main Street in El Cajon where it curves to become El Cajon Blvd, next to the Jack-in-the-Box, Hiram's Liquor store.

10-ish years old, Dad and I walked into Hiram's. He bought some vodka and a 10/22 for me (using my paper route $$). In and out in 20 minutes with both products in had (he made me carry both).

My first one was my Sig P220 45acp. Still have it. Made in 1977.

My dad gave me an Ithica M-49 for my 4th birthday. I got to shoot it for the first time just a few weeks later outside Ryolite in either 1969 or 1970. I still have it and taught my boys with it at about the same age.
