Grant Boys in 1977 for a Remington 1100 for $219. I already knew about the gun but the kid behind the counter said cycling the gun is much more difficult than the 870 which just needed a shuck on the forarm. To cycle the 1100, you had to pull on the charge handle (like a bolt action rifle) to cycle the action.



I just gave him the money and told him to ring up the sale for the 1100

My official first gun purchase, 24 November 1981, S&W Mod. 19-4, 6 inch, the day after I graduated from the academy. Two days later an Interterms Walther PPK/S as a back up, and off duty gun.

In college the most I could spend was $400 for a handgun. $500 tops. I waited patiently each week for the Sunday Oakland Tribune/ Thursday sports page. That was when Tradersports would advertise their specials.

I finally saw the Browning High power (belgium made) on sale for $399 and headed over there. Waited through their crowd that was at least 2 to 3 people deep across their entire front row.

Sure enough one week later, their Sunday sale in the sports page had a Beretta 92FS for $429. Agh! should have waited. That was my first choice. Two weeks later, Sig P226 for $499. Aghhh!!!! should have waited. Oh well.

One month later the prized wonder nine : Walther P88 for $599. Out of my price range, but that was the one I really wanted.

I'd say you chose the best option as those Browning High Powers will always be a classic.

My father gifted me an ar15 when I turned 18, we actually bought it here on Calguns. I am now 24 and have since only added guns

You never forget your first. For me it was a Remington Speedmaster, I was 13 and talked my parents into letting me buy a .22 rifle. This was back in 1964.

When I turned 18, went down to Big 5 and bought a Marlin 70HC, still have it.

First gun my dad bought was a 10/22. Bought it at a gun shop in a mall and carried it through the mall to get to the parking lot. My first gun was a Sears 12 gauge single shot. First handgun was a Tec 9 I bought from a friend's uncle. Lol. The only gun I didn't regret selling.

First gun with own money, 17 years old, mom took me to local surplus store in Hawthorne.. Colt SP1, long gone now..

Dad bought me first shotgun Remington 870 wingmaster 20ga, still have that one when around 14 years old at Woolworths in Redondo Beach.

My friend got me into the firearm world, prior to that I was neutral about it but had not been exposed to it, my first acquisition was a Colt 38 Super, I was thrilled , the rest is history.

I bought an Ithaca 94/22 Magnum at Fredericksburg Hardware on my 18th birthday. It cost $98 and I still have it and the receipt.

Bought a Remington 870 from Hogan’s in Pleasant Hill when I turned 19. Sure miss that place. Same week I bought a 10-22 at Gemco in Walnut Creek. Those were good times.

Ruger Mark II. Don't remember where I bought it from. Might have been a sporting goods shop on Alum Rock in San Jose. Nice pistol; served me well until I bought a S&W 41, then a Pardini.
