There is nowhere to put your SSN on the DROS.
That is on the 4473 and optional. The state DOJ and Feds do not cross reference the 4473 form for information, so putting your SSN on the 4473 does nothing and will not alleviate these issues nor get communicated to the CA State DOJ.
Even when the NICs gets approved, California has its own background check system and protocols with broader reach into State records, pending cases, and includes a wider variation of data than NICs, and yet the SSN is not a variable utilized on the DROS paperwork. (4473 is not DROS paperwork.)
One has to wonder if this all isn't a ploy to get that as a requirement added to the DROS (among many other goals of underground gun control, hostility to gun owners by Bonta, and reducing sales volume any way possible.)

CA DROS Delay

Which is the same kind of 'just to be sure' nonsense I've cited in the past, that mirrors the nonsense in not releasing on 'undetermined' when the law clearly states they are to do so.
I would not be surprised to hear of such FFL dealers requiring you to buy two handgun locks with each handgun purchase 'just to be sure' you have one in case the first one breaks or is lost.

One more added...And instead support one of the FFLs on the Spreadsheet of FFLs that release on "Undetermined" status from DROS.
You can also help out by submitting FFLs in this thread or submission form.

Because they can and nobody does anything about it. 11 days keeps them from releasing early and 28 days keeps them from releasing too late.
Just don't buy from them anymoreLeave a comment:

I asked the guy why and he said it's above his pay grade he smiled and said he honestly does'nt know why the 28 and not 30 days.Ah that's more clear. I'm curious why they do this because I can't think of a practical reason why it's any more efficient then going to 30 days..except maybe they use a calendar and it's easier to visually see 4 weeks / 28 days then it is to look at it and count 30 days.Leave a comment:

2024There are no longer firearms that are not 1-in-30 firearms.
It used to be that only hanguns and semi-auto rifles were limited to 1-in-30 but not ALL firearms were limited to 1-in-30.
Now ALL firearms are limited to 1-in-30 days per AB1621 which was signed into law on June 30th 2022.
That new law was included in AB1621 which also has this down near the end:Leave a comment:

1. Yes - I think that's true1. But it doesn't take that long to provide a NICS number. From what I understand in most other states you get the results of your NICS instantly you don't have to wait 30 days or even 10 day for it.
2. In Nevada for example the BG check can take up to three days but is usually instant and if I'm not mistaken the state doesn't charge you anything for it.
3. The NICS background check is conducted by the FBI from my understanding. The FBI did all the work and doesn't charge anything for it so its pretty funny the state of California is charging you 40 dollars for something that the FBI did. Haha what a nice racket they got going on there. Al Capone would be proud.
2. not sure
3. Yes it is a racket. The state is good at that. It's likely why they had such a surplus in the DROS fund as the fees we pay are much greater than the actual labor/technical cost for the work.Leave a comment:

From what I understand in most other states you get the results of your NICS instantly you don't have to wait 30 days or even 10 day for it.The reason I know they are doing something is that I receive a Federal NICS Number which means they did something to get that. Otherwise, there would be no possible way for me to legally release the firearm from a federal standpoint.
That is a result, but not a complete result. As I said, it's a service. You paid for the service..yes the service sucks, but would you rather they go back to you have to wait for the result indefinitely? Probably not.
Also, undetermined is NOT the same as absolutely nothing. It DOES mean you passed the Federal NICS check...however, CA adds whatever else to the process which they are still waiting on.

Whatever they are doing it's not producing any results. If you do shody work or work that doesn't result in anything useful to your customers then that is just as bad as doing nothing at all.
Give me the results of my background check in a timely manner. Is it clean or not? That is a result. If it is not clean, then what did I do specifically to make it not clean? That is a valid result.
Telling me "I don't know" or it is undetermined (which is the same as I don't know) is the same thing as providing me with absolutely nothing.

Although, that doesn't take effect until January 2024, correct? Or did I misread? There are no longer firearms that are not 1-in-30 firearms.

What makes you think they really are doing anything? You're just assuming. It's not entirely the same thing. In this case CA DOJ is doing the actual labor (supposedly), but they are waiting on results. It's the results they are waiting on that potentially are taking up to 30 days...so rather than wait for that courthouse in Temecula forever, it'll flip to undetermined.
You paid for a background check.hink they
CA DOJ ran the background check.
