    Iron sights.

The red dot and L whatever reminds me of kids who nowadays can't do simple math without staring into their smartphones to use the calc app.

You should be able to hit the typical silhouette target out to 300 meters without trying very hard. With a good setup that distance should be 400 meters with even aged eyes. It's called practice.

I imagine there are plenty of people who today, if their optic broke would be looking at a useless rifle.
Let Go of the Status Quo!

Don't worry, it will never pass...How in the hell did that pass?

Think past your gun, it's the last resort, the first is your brain.

Defense is a losing proposition when time is on the side of the opponent. In the history of humanity, no defense has ever won against an enemy with time on their side.

I can imagine a lot of things, hahah. Everyone doesn't have the same eyes, same rifle, same tastes, same property, etc... etc...

You think everyone should have irons only, that's great. That is an opinion. It is ok for people to have their own, right? Lots of people learned on Irons and find RDS or glass a lot better for them to ID target or simply hit them where they want.

A LOT of people looking at a decent sized target through irons at 400 yards would prefer the sight picture of 10x through some nice glass with a good reticle - you sure you love that 400 yard view through irons? I remember it, and it isn't that good.

I would agree that there are probably people that get a rifle and fail to sight in both the BUS and the red dot, but I bet at the very least they sighted in ONE and they cranked them into co-witness. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd venture a guess that people on a gun enthusiast site have their tish dialed in OK for 50 or 100 yards.

I feel like BUS are pretty universally considered a necessary part of a AR rifle.

There are plenty of bolt guns that WOULD BE pretty worthless if the glass broke. Stuff happens. More importantly, can they fix it? Do they have backup rifles or spare optics and time to fix them?

I shoot my AK with irons to 625 yards. Even then, I can shot 6 shots from 50-300 yards with an AR and an LVPO faster than the AK with iron sights.

When in a fight, the guy who hits first and true, wins. It doesnt matter what sights you have.

In the event of an invasion, you could expect the invaders to have some night vision capabilities. Inexpensive red dots, the ones that project a dot on the glass looking forward, show up like neon signs in NVGs. Also, it is quite interesting to see a bunch of HSLD holsters holding tritium sighted side arms through NVGs - moving neon signs.

Bunch of boomers think people don’t know how to use iron sights. It’s the other way around. We’ve moved on. It’s more like a bunch of boomers don’t know how to use a lvpo.

a true 1x lvpo with both eyes open is nearly as fast, imho.

in truth, i tend to swap optics a lot, depending on the job at hand, which is why i will pay more for qd mounts.

              Looks clean!

If it makes you feel better my LPVO has back up irons.

You cannot operate your weapon system tactically in a high-speed, low-drag SHTF/SNAFU/TU situation without a thermal and/or NOD sighting device. Buy once, cry once. YMMV. OMGWTFBBQ.

It depends on your intended use (as usual). Generally, inside of 100 yards-ish, a red dot. Past that a LPVO.

zombies and plague monsters come out at night. they might not be warm, so don't rely on thermal!

Predator aliens don't show up on thermal either, only ultraviolet. You guys are forgetting about the aliens...

When the night falls... anyone with just a effing flashlight is going to perish in a hail of NODS guided bullets?
