RDS with BUIS co-wtiness. This way you have both and can toss/ignore the RDS if/when it fails.

LVPO adds too much bulk/weight, and realistically is only for highly skilled people in SHTF.

If your eyesight allows for irons to be used effectively at distance, go for it.


Red dot for me with a 3x magnifier that flips away. That way its inline with the rifle so no snagging on things, still lighter than a 1-6x LVPO and gives me decent magnification to 150yds

The real reason ppl are choosing lvpo is the fact that it doesnt need batteries to operate.

Even if you say have a fresh battery in the red dot right when the shiz kicks off. What about 1 year 2 year +3 years later. You think you Will find replacement button batteries that red dots take?

A lot of LPVO fan bois, but in a real zombie invasion, a red dot is all you will need. You would have minimal use for a LPVO in a real SHTF apocalyptic scenario. But you won’t convince this crew because they like first, saying LPVO because it’s cool, a second, it looks much cooler on an AR than a simple red dot. And before you flame, I’ve been getting paid to carry an M16, and now an M4, for 24 years.

You don't need ANY optic if you're just carrying the weapon.

Some manufacturers like the Trijicon, use fiber optic during the day and radioactive glow for the night.

No batteries.

I voted LPVO w/ an etched reticle and BUIS but I also have a Holosun 510c that has a solar panel that charges the unit.

But like another poster already mentioned, if you actually made it that long and survived long enough that you "outlived" the battery in your optic, by that time it would be tough finding ammo most likely.

depends. i mean each time you turn on the red dot doesn't mean you will be firing the gun.

and of course all those "50,000 hours" claims that red dot companies likes to give are always with the dot on the lowest power setting. but if you crank that to the highest setting, that cuts the hours down to under 10,000 if not even lower.

It depends on the environment. If SHTF is urban, red dot since you won't likely be making a shot past 200 yards. Rural would be lpvo.
