You could get a FFP illuminated LPVO and use it as a basic red dot on 1x and have the option for up to 6x-8x if needed.

Get a sling and hit the gym. A AR 5.56 with a lvpo is way lightweight.

If you build a lightweight AR, it isn't that bad even with a 1-8.
