1911s are antiquated and serve no purpose in mondern times, just like rotary phones. They're pretty to look at and easy to hold for those with tiny, frail hands. Their weight soaks up recoil for those who's joints can't handle a little jostling.

By the way, .40 beats them all.

Well... I am learning tonight as well. I just got called out as an idiot in another thread because (1) I didn't know that a Glock 19 is not good for competition because it is a compact and (2) I didn't know that the stock trigger of the Glock 34 is less than match ready.

If you can only shoot 1 round per second then why does it matter?

There's a reason a 1911 has been around for over a hundred years and is currently transitioning into a 2011, so all you glock fan boys have enough ammo to actually hit something.

              That is all.

                      …and a Glock 21SF, and multiple 1911s, and a CZ97B…

For me, the Glock is least enjoyable .45 to shoot and least accurate. It’s my nightstand gun because it’s the cheapest to replace (a huge reason why many LEAs issue it to their officers) and if, God forbid, I have to use it one night it’s going to be close quarters so bullseyes are not a priority. If the CZ had a rail it would take over nightstand duty to be honest.

As far as reliability’s concerned, my Glock has not been any more reliable than any of the other 45s. I’m sure when they came out they set a new bar, but I believe others have raised to that level and some have arguably risen above.

Glock apostles are like Honda people - nothing is as reliable as a Honda to them because their dad said so back in the day. Oh, and he used to have an American car that was a lemon so, you know, that’s just a fact forevermore.

I'm not total Glock fanboy or apostle, but mine have been completely reliable and depenable (all 9mm). My G45 is what sits in my nightstand. I don't own a G21 because I don't like the grip.

Like you, I own multiple 1911s, Sig P220 (German) and recently a Walther PPQ M 2 .45 acp.
I think CZ makes a better striker fire than Glock. If I can ever get my hands on a CZ P10F in .45 acp I'll buy it. The Walther is a great smooth shooting gun. Awesome trigger. But finding holsters and accessories has been daunting. When I do, it will sit in my nightstand.

I think were on the same page here. I agree with your "car" analogy. Lol. My dad was a hardcore "Chevy man".

So, I'm wondering if anyone can chime in with their experience as far as a faster rate of fire and accuracy? The trigger on a 1911 feels better than the Glock trigger, but I couldn't see if it actually translates into faster, more accurate shooting or not really? Like I mentioned, I can't test this myself as I'm limited to 1 shot per second.
One thing a lot of posters seem to be forgetting is 1911's run a pretty wide gamut of manufacturers, price, and quality.

What 1911 are you comparing the G21 to? Because not all 1911's are created equal; a $400 Rock Island Armory is not the same as a $700 Springfield Armory, a $1000 Colt, or a $1500 Dan Wesson, never mind the real high end stuff like Nighthawk or Wilson Combat above the $3K line.

If I'm comparing a stock G21 to a stock GI-style 1911, I'll take the Glock first if shooting fast and accurately is my focus. Move up to more "upgraded" models with changes to the sights, safety, grip safety/beavertail, polished feed ramp, etc., is where I'd start opting for the 1911.

I might actually buy a glock for a nightstand gun because I dont want to lose one my nice 1911's for a year or 2 because of a self defense shoot.
How much is your life worth? If a gun is good enough to save your life then you will have opportunity to get another.

It is really interesting that people put down the cheap guns and then they want to use them in crucial situations.

I found a range that allows double taps....pretty good fun and training.
