Id say hold on to it. Who knows what the firearm availability in the future is going to be. Maybe after a while you might like it. Doesn't sound like it's going to hurt you hold on to it.
I often say, training is worth more than another gun, but it sounds like you are no stranger to classes.

If money is an issue then sell the XD and buy something you prefer or at least want to try out. I never regretted selling off my XD's and I enjoyed blowing the money on other guns. If you are indifferent to or out and out dislike the XD then why keep it. I'm all about acquiring guns, but only guns I want to shoot If there's no love connection for the gun then sell it.

Why tie up space in the safe and the money invested in a gun you don't like when that money and space could be used for a gun you do like?
Like you said--"Who knows what the firearm availability in the future is going to be?"
I agree so why miss out on that new Sig or Smith or Taurus or whatever, to keep money tied up in a gun you don't really like?
Sell it while you still can so you can get that new gun while you still can.

All great replies on both sides of the discussion.

I did put it up for sale for a reasonable price, but no interest so far, no a peep, so I may just keep it. I'm not the type to just keep stuff around simply to keep it if it's not being used. But then again, as it was already mentioned in this thread, having a firearm to use as a loaner or let a new shooter try is nice, and this XD would be perfect for that. Something I don't really have to worry about, is reliable, solid, etc. May do just that and relegate it to being the in-house loaner, and still end up buying that 1911 or 686 revolver I've been wanting.

Sell it! I have a rule of thumb. If it’s on roster and a basic gun, if I don’t like it, sell it! I’ve sold all of my run of the mill guns and bought the guns I really lust over. I’ve had the, “loaner guns,” but always end up selling them. I’d rather put my CZ SP-01 SAO in the hands of a new gun owner. Sell them on something amazing. I have probably had 3-4 people purchase a CZ as their first firearm because of this.

I would never want the guilt of selling someone on a XD. just my $.02 I truthfully don’t understand the people that have 4 G19s, 5 G17s, 3 G34s. I have 1 Glock, and that’s more than enough! Poor thing never even gets shot. Only keep it because it was a gift.

Hell, I’ve even debated on selling my Beretta M9A1 that’s been done up by Wilson. But can’t bring myself to do it as I used to have such an admiration for the piece. But polymer, run of the mill, on roster guns, sell em!

Buy yourself some CZs, Sigs, and nice 1911s

Thing is we all have different reasons, wants and needs for the forearms we have. I personally dont care as much about what others think about the guns I have, not trying to impress anyone with a "collection", etc. I've shot much more expensive firearms than Glocks, owned "nicer" firearms than Glocks, but simply put, I look at it as a tool to get a certain job done.

I'm personally more impressed by the guy who can shoot the heck out of an inexpensive firearm (inexpensive doesn't have to mean cheap or inferior) than the guy on the line next to me going on and on about how expensive his CZ, German Sig, or custom whatever is, and then the guy can't even shoot accurately and consistently and apparently doesn't know what he's doing. But he's got the top end of everything, so he must be good, right?

Nothing wrong with collecting, having nice stuff, having high end stuff, etc., but the guys that just have to have the best of the best and go on about how everything else is junk crack me up. At a point it becomes diminishing returns, and dare I say a lot of people try to compensate for their lack of skill with an expensive firearm, thinking that will somehow make up for their lack of actually putting the time into training and practicing. I have a buddy who does exactly this. Guy has to have the most expensive AR, most expensive handguns, but he's never received any formal training, has no real clue what he's doing, has no clue how to clear a type 3 malfunction, etc. But he feels confident since he has the best of the best. He doesn't even know what he doesn't know. To each their own I guess, and don't misunderstand what I'm saying here. I obviously don't think that everyone who owns high end firearms is compensating for something, not at all. But also don't think you need the best of the best to be able to shoot well and be proficient, despite the internet telling us otherwise. I've been in classes with guys standing next to me with custom, high end whatever and can't shoot worth a darn and make excuses the entire class. One guy kept switching to differnet firearm (he apparently brought several with him) and kept making excuses and blaming the firearms for his inability to do well. Also been in a class with two police officers who's department sent them out for training. Both were slow, dropping mags and again, couldn't really shoot worth a darn. Then there's me who has only been shooting for a year and a half with my cheap, crappy, polymer Gen3 Glock 17 with 10 round mags and smoked those guys, and I'm not even anything to brag about. Just trying to say that you don't need a crazy expensive firearm to have fun and be a good, competent shooter. I've gotten more enjoyment out of training with more "utilitarian" weapons that work and get the job done, and would rather have two or three of those same firearms than just one more expensive firearm.

I used to be "that guy" when it came to guitars. Thought I had to always have "the best" and anything less was inferior and beneath me. Always going from one guitar to another, making excuses for why I suck, and if I only had "that" guitar, I'd eb able to get to the next level. Always blaming the gear, and never being honest with myself. Sold a guitar once that I didn't like for whatever reason. Guy came buy to check it out and when he played it, it sounded absolutely amazing. Sounded so good I didn't want to sell it, but couldn't back out of the deal out of embarrassment. At that point I was honest with myself and said, "dude, you suck and it's not the gear, it you." So I started practicing more, started getting better, and worry less and less about gear, and more and more about practicing. Would rather be the guy with more run of the mill, utilitarian guitars who can hold his own that the guy with a room full of high end guitars that goes on and on about every detail and spec, but can't play them worth a darn. I guess I look t firearms the same way.

Yeah OP ^^^^^^^. I like 'em utilitarian too as I am always acutely aware of diminishing returns....in everything. That said, I don't like super cheap throw away utilities either as they are a waste of my hard end money.

                    Good luck in your decision.

I agree. I personally don't think Glocks are "cheap throw aways" though as some people may. Also, price doesn't always mean something is necessarily good or bad. Heck, You can get a brand new Beretta M9 for under $550. That thing will last a VERY long time and is a very well made firearm. Might not have the features or ergs someone wants, but it's quality. Just because it doesn't cost much doesn't mean it's junk. In that example, I'd rather have one M9 than 2 or three Hi Points! But I'd also rather have 2 or 3 G17's than one higher end CZ if it came down to that. To each their own.

I know my comments will probably strike a nerve with some people. That's fine. As a new shooter though it's just way easier to get caught up thinking you absolutely have to have the best of the best. It's so much easier to make excuses and blame your gear for your lack of ability, and is also easier to collect and acquire than it is to actually practice. Much easier to whip out the credit card and buy more stuff and amass a collection than it is to set aside tome to dry practice every day and do the stuff that isn't as fun as actually shooting live ammo, spend money to take classes and be honest with yourself and your abilities, and work toward getting better instead of just having more stuff.

Why keep the XD as a "loaner" when you can sell it and get another "loaner" you really want like another Glock? I would have kept the M9 you sold and made that the "loaner".

^^^^Truth! Someone gets it... Dr. Boombatz, I suggest you keep the gun. You will probably not be able to sell it for what you have into it. Keep the XD and possible sell it to a friend at a fair price. The XD is an excellent handgun for a new gun owner looking to own just one serviceable combat handgun.

OP, why did you upgrade the XD when you only put one box of ammo through it?

I've never made any internal upgrades to my guns without shooting them a lot first. And then i dont make upgrades to a gun i may consider selling later unless the upgrade would increase its resale value like on a CZ or Beretta. Upgrades to guns like XDs and Glocks are not worth much if anything on secondary market.

I think you are going to have to eat the cost of the upgraded trigger on your XD. I'd strip it down to the most basic offer, the gun, case and one mag, and offer it for $500, you may have to go down to $400 to get a buyer. Can you reinstall the factory trigger? Typically for upgrades its better to remove them in sell them seperately.
