Why the rifle stock? You may or may not run into problems with a gas system designed to use a shorter cycle. It seems like you took a very conservative route in building this, being your first one ... until now.

FWIW I buy the lower parts kits w/out fire control, and use the trigger of my choice. Had I run into your issue with the hammer, I would've sh*tcanned it and spent 80 bucks for a LaRue trigger. You could've probably got that A2 pistol grip for free, everyone seems to have a couple lying around because they replace theirs with a Magpul or something else. You will too.

As for the Aero lower, meh. The bolt catch and trigger guard aren't that hard to put in, as you know. So you're paying that extra money for a slightly more beveled magwell.

worst case i buy a stock that's compatible with my 16" carbine and use the A2 stock on my next build - i'll admit i didn't have all the information needed when it came to choosing my stock

this is what happens when you're used to buying retail

fortunately i can deal with whatever needs to be done - im basically learning as i go

Reminds me of December 2016. We just came back from Christmas vacation and I had six bare AR lowers to build by the end of the year so they can be registered as BBAW. I had to borrow a couple of uppers to finish them as complete rifles. Good times!

Meh, I use the rifle stock and spacer with carbine buffer and spring. Works great. I like the look and prefer something a bit beefier for butt stroking fools.

It’s a win win, gives you a reason to buy a 20” upper and another lower to build for your carbine. You really should have at least one of both.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

                  07/09/2021

took the build to the range today to test it out - put about 300 .223-55 grain rounds through it without a glitch, it was flawless

i had some concerns about the cycling due to the A2 buttstock and the 16" upper but as far as i could tell or see, the cycling was as expected - im not real fond of the trigger reset but it's more than livable, don't see the need for a custom trigger at this point, it's about what i'd expect non custom

i'll leave it alone for now but keep monitoring the cycling

about the only thing i've did with it was the carry handle and foregrip that i added on to it

You should clock where your brass is ejecting that is often the easiest way to get an idea of what is going on when it mostly cycles.

i did keep an eye on that - right around the 4 o'clock which seemed about right

as it breaks in more i'll watch for any noticeable differences in the cycling and ejecting - felt pretty smooth today

It's pretty easy to polish the trigger parts. I always do.

didn't even give that a thought - i've done that with all of my revolvers, very easy

i even took the time to completely disassemble my stainless Ruger GP100 and polish the entire revolver - all by hand, took awhile but it turned out pretty damn nice i must say

i guess it's obvious im proud of this polish job - took a few months working slowly on it - im betting i can do a fairly decent job on the build trigger
