Tape to protect your finish while putting in the bolt catch.

Why stop at the lower? I've built a dozen lowers and half a dozen uppers. None of it is rocket science, but having the right tools really helps. Ive never had a single problem with any of my builds.

The real issue is stopping at one.

i have a spanner nut wrench so im good there too - based on what i've watched can't see anything else i don't already have except the clevis pin which if i need i can get locally

im off to a great start of course a few of the lowers i was interested in are out of stock - still looking

it was the same with me and my guns - first i took on the Ruger GP100's, learned to totally disassemble them and i mean everything including the cylinder and crane - then it was on to my other revolvers and once i conquered them i did the same with my semi-autos, all of them

i'll probably do a few lowers then challenge myself some more with some uppers - being retired helps

Front detent was always the most annoying part of assembly to me.

Either...

a) do it in a plastic bag such that if the detent goes flying, it's caught by the bag.

or

b) there are tools nowadays to help. This looks like a decent one, but I've never used it.

did a little inventory today, i already have a few tools i bought for my AR's, to help with their maintenance including a armorer's tool

got my Wheeler roll pin starter punch in today (Wheeler = Made in China, sigh)

the KNIPEX wrench i ordered arrived today too - that's not just for the AR, just looked like a good tool to have around and it's German made

the clevis pin i can get locally, should pretty much be everything i need - i have a portable vise and im looking to order a mag vise block but im waiting to see where i order the lower from - trying to order it by itself i find the shipping cost more than the block so i'll order it along with some other stuff to save on the shipping

looking to find a good forged lower, maybe something with an interesting logo or print on it - the one i have in my cart from Palmetto might be the one, lol

im sure this won't be that big a deal, the videos i've watched, especially the one from Midway sure gives you the best ways to do this build correctly and in the easiest manner

can't believe some of the "tools or accessories" they want to sell you to accomplish certain parts of the build - totally not necessary

don't see much difference between this and some of my handguns that i've completely disassembled - maybe a few more roll pins, plungers and springs to be mindful of but as far as difficulty, not very - i know more going into this than i did with some of my handguns
