After you loose your uninsured guns and ammo to a tornado let me know how you feel about that “investment”.

here in salinas we only have 2 places to buy ammo, turners and big 5. i havent gone and priced ammo at big five but at turners yesterday they had 9mm for35 bucks a 50 round box. 762 by 39 wolf for 10 bucks per 20 round box. a dollar and a half per round for 308 and a dollar and up a round for 223.the pistol ammo doesnt last long it seems.they haf fiochi 12 guage low base taget loads from 13 to 15 bucks a box. i havent noticed availability getting better and still see prices goin up on some stuff. and 38 and 357 almost non existant. it was sold out but they did have max tech 9mm for 33 bucks a box and 2 years or so ago i got it there for 7. 99 a box on sale

I'll let you know when a tornado takes that ton of ammo in a Knaack cabinet out of my basement and flings it everywhere. And I guess I missed the part where I said it was an investment. If that was the case I would have sold it two months ago and quadrupled my money. What I have been able to do is shoot whenever I want in 2020 and 2021 and barely make a dent in it, so there's that.

Just for fun, let's take a show of hands of people that lost an ammunition stash from a wildfire, tornado, earthquake, nuclear bomb. We'll compare to to the amount of people that have had virtually nothing to shoot for the last year and a half without breaking the bank. I'll bet it's like 100,000 to 1.

I am slowly, but somewhat surely seeing ammo return to the market and prices dropping slightly. I am going to say this even knowing it will once again fall upon deaf ears but... without any further ado:

STOCK UP THIS TIME YOU IDIOTS!

You need as a bare minimum, 1,000 rounds of every common tactical caliber you own a weapon for and about 200 rounds for your hunting calibers. I don't care what it costs you, do it. This is in reserve to whatever you want to shoot, so double that amount as a rough estimate... again, these are minimums.

I could have sold my stash for a huge profit, but that's not why I bought it so I did not. There will come a time when ammo does NOT return to the market, your guns are worthless without it. So don't be an idiot (again), put down your bong and buy some ammo with your weed money you filthy California hippies.

I would also suggest a reloading kit. Even a simple kit can be a good idea. Stocking up on Ready to go ammo is but being able to reload is better. Cheaper and you can stock more components than the same amount of ammo.

Woo Hoo! I just checked a bunch of online dealers and one just got in percussion caps. I just ordered up a lifetime supply, and black powder too. Center fire primers are still unavailable, but this does look like a break in the supply crisis.

PS: I wholeheartedly agree 1000 rounds is a bare minimum for standard caliber inventory. Frankly, I'd say 2000 rounds would be advised.

I disagree with this concept of telling anyone what they need.

I also feel it’s stupid to keep thousands of rounds per caliber. You better have it insured because it’s one wildfire away from being worthless.

One or two favorite calibers ok but beyond that depends on that persons needs/income level/ability to securely store it/etc.

What a joke, do you live in a place that's so insecure that you are worried about random wildfires or theft? Because for most people the chance of a wildfire taking out their ammo stash is about like their chances of being hit by lightning.

It makes complete sense to buy ammo in large amounts when its cheap. And that's exactly what I did. The most I ever paid for 5.56 brass cased range ammo was $.33 cents a round.

I bought thousands of rounds of each caliber I use over time, and when it was cheap, and guess what? I don't have to buy overpriced ammo and I can go shooting when I want.

Because I bought it when it was cheap, my investment was relatively low.

9mm on Ammoseek regularly available for 45 cpr, another month or two without riots it should be down to 30-35 cpr.

Most of the ammo on Ammoseek is crap. Steel case and such.

I've seen no real evidence that supplies are improving. Everyone keeps saying that things are getting better, but realistically; I've seen no reductions in price except for off-brands and occasional lower prices on bulk Match ammo.

Supply hasn't been any better. Anecdotally you hear from random people who stumbled into recently stocked shelves that are then empty in a couple hours or less.

It's going to be a long time before things get substantially better. I'm thinking increments of months, maybe years.

Sorry if I popped anyone's rainbow bubble, but I'll be amazed if prices or availability improve within six months.

I have a very good stockpile and would consider selling some but the hassle is not worth the small amount I can sell. It was all a part of the plan.

This is the way I feel too , hell I would sell at a small profit(but far less than LGS) as well but it's just too much bs to sell. Drive to the store , wait in line , show id and then watch the buyer pay a $10 extortion fee

Well in this case it would be grammar, and some of us would like to think we didn't waste 12 years of tax payer money teaching you the English language. And please... "Thursday" should be capitalized.

Did you "loose" some ammo in that fire? I know about California wildfires, I was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and lived there the better part of my life. I've been through more wildfires than I care to remember and was directly on top of the Big Bear earthquake in '92. Almost lost the neighborhood to the Butler fire, my ammo burning up was probably the last thing on my mind. But all said and done, I've never lost a single round of ammo to a natural disaster and I'll bet that applies to 99.9% of the people here.

I'll maintain that not keeping a good stock of ammo on hand due to the possibility of losing it in a wildfire is a ridiculous notion. Just admit you didn't stock up and you're trying to justify it.
