Don't get gimmick ammo, especially something a prosecutor or jury might look at as "killer" ammo. Carry what LEOs carry would be my advice.
Federal HST (what I use)
Speer Gold Dot
Similar ammunition to those.
Do not carry FMJ, it can ricochet of bone, pass through targets, etc. in unpredictable ways.-POLICESTATE,

I'd suggest reading Gary Roberts material, most likely the worlds premier forensic ballistician.
His list of credentials is lengthy and includes real world autopsies on military, oes and civilian shootings for the USA and other countries friendly to us.
I use 124gn HST. I used 500 rds through my two edc guns and the mags I carry. To consider them carry weapons I required 1,000 practice rds and the 500 of HST to run with no hiccups.
I also did this with the Barnes Tac 115gn. It's good to have a couple to choose from in case you can't find one.
Yes it was expensive compared to range ammo but my or my families life is worth more.
He goes by DocGKR at pistol forum.com and is cool enough to take the time to be the ammo moderator there.Last edited by tawadc95; 12-13-2020, 9:05 PM.Comment

It;s covid lockdown and ammo is trading at $1.00 /round. What else do we have to do?

Every year we shoot up a couple cars teaching shot placement through glass and other urban related necessities like where to disable an engine.
We had students then try to penetrate completely across the doors of the vehicle using the guns and ammo they had on them.
None of the smaller calibers made it, rifle rounds went through with little surprise, however one student had the Underwood/Lehigh Defense "Penetrator" ammo. Only thing penetrated is your wallet. It did not even penetrate into the interior of the far door. Absolute nonsense if you intend for this to get into places where "standard" ammo cant. 180gr .40 penetrated deeper than it did.
I however ran Doubletap 200gr controlled expansion 10mm from my glock and it penetrated completely through and left a golf ball sized exit wound.
Ammo selection is absolutely critical based on intended use, barrel length and desired performance.
HST, SXT, Gold Dot and many others have plenty of street time and data to support their use.Originally posted by TonyNorCalIf I'm going to spend money to touch a woman then it's going to be at a Nevada brothel, on Craiglist hooker, or trolling the streets in a camper van.

I carry a variety of Underwood ammo in my Glock 20 and 29. Depends on where I am going . Out in the woods the extreme hunter or Penetrator. Around town 155 to 180 grain Xtp jacketed hollow point.
Underwood ammo has always functioned flawlessly .Comment
