Restrictions
I don't agree with "many" Americans, but definitely some.
So, :-
1. Implement the laws already in place
2. Initiate a well thought out mental evaluation procedure
- this would include assessing the applicant's online diatribes.

We have the only common sense gun law we need already.
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.NRA Life MemberComment

Since democrats want to eliminate most of our Amendments, I say we let them live by their convictions. Their rights are forfeited and democrats are no longer protected by those Amendments that they hate so much. But Republicans and Independents retain those rights and protections.
Just like they want to raise taxes. Let democrats pay the tax rates they keep trying to ram down everyone's throats. If you talk the talk, you should walk the walk. Republicans and Independents however, are grandfathered in to the prior lower tax rates.

OP, we have spoken before, I have given you advice before. Now would be the time to listen to people who have decades of experience when it comes to firearms and ownership. The unique aspect about firearm ownership and the right to bare arms, is that it is constitutionally backed. We as citizens, cannot change this, the moment we do, our society falls into chaos. Case in point, Seattle. Among many other places. The only common sense that can go along with guns is the common sense each gun owner/user is required to implement unto themselves. It would behoove you to listen to some of these guys that have been in this for decades. They have seen the laws ebb and flow, people come and go. The one thing that remains constant is the constitution. Just because a group of kids at a college get together and discuss “really neat ideas” that are seemingly obvious to some, if it directly contradicts the second amendment of the United States of America, it doesn’t deserve to be supported. The words Shall not be infringed aren’t just a few cool words to throw on a bumper sticker or t-shirt. Right now, tax payer money is being used to combat cases like Duncan V. Beccera & Miller V. Becerra. Evidently, it is up to the people to support the constitution from which we stand and salute. The government has lost all of its ability to implement “common sense.” That term is a poignant reminder that the masses turn on CNN for their news, as if CNN is providing accurate information. Its propaganda.Last edited by Mr. Blue; 09-29-2020, 2:54 AM.Comment

Crime is already illegal so anyone that thinks some magical law will keep bad hombres from obtaining arms is deluded.Comment

I don't like the notion of extra punishment being added if a firearm was involved during a crime. Seems like some of us could get caught in that dragnet by an activist prosecutor. I don't like criminals, but those liberal prosecutors can stick it to us with bogus firearms related charge.Comment

I believe that the gun laws in place go beyond common sense. They need to be pulled back.
I am ok with a few check points along the way to obtaining a gun. The requirement to regulate transfers via background check and the requirement for a background check. Little steps like this gives pause to opportunistic and unsophisticated criminals. Even those with outstanding arrest warrants, out on parole, etc. Anyone with obvious reason who shouldnt be afforded a firearms without closer scrutiny. A determined criminal, you cannot really stop. Background checks should have a clear appeals process.
I think that certain psychiatric diagnosis or psychological behavior such as a history of self harm, violence directed towards others with malicious intent, a history of making violent threats and delusional/separation from reality should be mandated to be included into a database. Anyone on the database should go through more scrutiny before they are able to acquire a firearm.
Anyone denied their right to a firearms should have a right to an appeals process.Last edited by MarikinaMan; 09-29-2020, 9:18 AM.Comment

Some method of weeding out prohibited purchasers, like a background check I think is a good idea. Yes, illegal sales will continue of stolen guns but let's at least stop the prohibited from legally buying. You will never stop illegal sales.
Whether that is a background check at the point of purchase or some other method like a mark on a drivers license, I don't know which is better. I can see ACLU saying that is being discriminatory to the prohibited if they have a mark on their license and what do you do about fake licenses ? so a Background check seems the right way. That can be done right at the store with a PROPER database check. I capitalize proper above because I feel the NICS database is too full of errors at this time and there is no way for a person to correct that information in it. Like the no-fly list, once on it, even in error, you can't get off it. So fix that NICS database first, then a instant background check and done.
After that...no waiting period, no mag limits, its a gun and you have proven you are not prohibited, do what you want.
I also don't think the background check should include firearm information, you are only being checked to see if you are prohibited, the firearm information is your business and not the government's. No registration needed, you proved you are ok with a firearm.sigpic
