It don't matter if Indiana has such a law. According to the link posted by the OP, the Marine was charged with a federal violation of the U.S. Code.

The federal law does include a "Constructive Possession" clause.

Wouldn't help since constructive possession applies to SBR laws.

The US Supreme Court ruled that possession of the parts in close proximity equated to possession of the complete rifle.

Held, a firearm, as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA), 26 U.S.C. 5845(a)(3), is made when unassembled parts are placed in close proximity in such a way that they:
              (a) Serve no useful purpose other than to make a rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length (e.g., a receiver, an attachable shoulder stock, and barrel of less than 16 inches in length); or
              (b) Convert a complete weapon into such an NFA firearm, including – (1) A pistol and attachable shoulder stock; and
              (2) A rifle with a barrel of 16 inches or more in length, and an attachable barrel of less than 16 inches in length.

                    As others have mentioned, fed.

You can buy SBR uppers on gunbroker all day long Shipped right to your door. If you do you had better either own a pistol lower or own no lower at all and never put it on a rifle lower.

man if meme's was indicative of a person's future intent, then many people would be in deep trouble.

most of all, brandon herrera, he is the biggest gun youtuber that has tons of gun related memes on his computer.

Poor kid is learning the hard way, it really amazes me how many people are not just completely ignorant on SBR laws. But also just totally disregard them.

With the 80% craze of the last 5 years or so and all the budget short uppers being sold on line, this country is flooded with SBR’s. Lots of good people playing with fire, some don’t know, most don’t care. But if they ever find themselves in the same position as that young man they will, but then it’s too little too late.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

Some folks just don't know how to talk to cops. Kid pretty much arrested himself by consenting and talking.

NSA feeds local police intel for opportunity busts.

Only advice now is to pray to God for help.
