Big trouble for a young man

A friend of my sons is in legal trouble and I'm not sure what we can do for him. He's a former Marine and current reservist he's a twenty something year old. Very smart guy in some ways (was accepted to Berkeley before this) and not so smart in other ways. Anyway he was doing a cross country drive visiting friends and family before starting at UCB and got pulled over in Indiana on his way back to California. Well he had an unregistered AR with too short of a barrel and was arrested. Then they founded stupid meme's in his texts that they are calling essentially militia and threatening. He's none of those things though like many young people he's very anti-govt. Also to my knowledge he has zero criminal history and definitely not racist just apparently stupid with the meme's. For those interested here's a link if it works..... https://www.leagle.com/decision/infdco20200818d34

No I don't believe it was an 80% I'm not sure how it wasn't registered though he may have private party bought it somewhere. I did see it once and made a point of saying I wouldn't have that because it's trouble waiting to happen.

How they come to the conclusion that he's a danger to society from some meme's really amazes me. Apparently it'll be November before he gets his court date.

I believe he means a non NFA registered SBR. Thats a big no no. Good luck to the kid. He shouldn't have broken that fedetal law. I think the memes are the least of his problems.

Edit: I went back and skimmed the link. My advice to the OP is to distance your kid from this kid. He was up to no good and got caught. Make sure your kid isn't going down the wrong path.

They're saying up to 2 years. The meme's they're using to deny him bail.

RED FLAGS! He's apparently guilty of something according to the "Thought Police".

I am going to take a chance and guess the major of your son's friend at Cal wasn't going to be STEM related.

OP. I don't accept that he is "like many young people" and simply stupid with meme's.

OP. You should discuss with your son that he should run away from anyone directly or indirectly advocating violence.

Some thought police going on there for sure though for imagined future crimes.

Separating the upper and lower would work to defeat a California AW charge (except for named lowers), but it would not defeat a federal SBR charge.
