    I visit that range often
I try to stay vigilant and help those that need it.

They allow birdshot but usually those that can hit paper.

Not everyone on Calguns is an experienced gun owner, especially post-covid/riots/panic buying. This thread is an insight to those new gun owners of what the guy in the stall next to you is seeing and what they are aware of.

This is also a friendly reminder to other range members to be attentive, explain what I experienced today, and what to watch out for.

The last thing we need is for anti-gun politicians to shut down ranges over negligence.

^^^ This. As a younger member, I was not about to get into a verbal altercation with the two 35-45 year old men next to me. Besides that, I noticed while I was in line that these people were not gun enthusiasts, were into firearms for the machismo, and fit the "tactitard" persona.

They might have mistaken my alarm for confrontation, so I felt my best course of action was to explain what was happening to the staff and leave the range.

Your circumstance may be different, but with all of these new and misinformed gun owners, I think we should have a discussion on the proper course of action. Again, note that I said OC indoor doesn't necessarily have an RSO in the shooting bays, and there was only one person staffing the range to filter people out today.

this is why i haven't been to a public part of ranges since 2017, and will continue to not go to the public side of ranges if possible.

private range rental or nothing for me. i rather shoot less than get shot.

Of the things I've seen at Livermore:

                - Somebody has shot the overhang again.
                - Gun flagging from newbie/visitor/idiot that has already been informed of range rules. (Guaranteed at least once a day)
                - Who knew 40 S&W cal. WILL shoot out of a 1911 chambered in 45? Seen the shell too.
                - Some dude crawling out in front of the bench during live fire. Darwin nominee.
                - Billy bad*** with the rapid fire. Seen a few of those.
                - Dude attaches a bayonet to his rifle. For balance maybe?
                - Oh, great...the one guy with the shotgun forgot slugs so he's fired buckshot. Evryone has holes in targets now.
                - The guy on lane eighteen is upset the guy on seventen is shooting his target. The guy on seventeen thought he should shoot one over because the guy on sixteen is shooting at the target on seventeen.
                - That one moron that looked down the barrel of a loaded gun? It's happened.
                - Some guy pays the range fee to shoot his air rifle. Perfectly fine and allowed...but why?
                - "Hey bud, know where I can buy ammo? Why doesn't the range just sell ammo?"
                - Slowly watching another target stand disintegrate as each side of it and the frame gets blown to bits...yet they can't hit anywhere near center.
                - The lab scientist that shows up with a custom .22 lr rig for competitive shooting, weather socks, wind speed measure, log book, and ammo yov'e never seen before. Damn he's accurate...
                - The twelve guys that showed up and none speak english. They just rented the lane next to you...time to go home!

most cities ban firing air guns in your own backyard. if he has nosy neighbors that make call the cops on him, he would be treated as if he was firing a real gun.

plus, depending on the air gun he has, they can easily shoot 100 yards or more. i know i don't have that kind of range at my house.

Fair enough. Coming from someone that has shot at a pellet trap from every room in the house (even on the toilet) with a single pump of my Daisy 880, maybe he's living on a boat for all I know. . If I'm payin the range fee though, I'm bringin a real gun.

i guess it depends on the air gun he is using?

been watching this one south african guy on youtube that does pest control hunts with an pellet gun, a FX Impact and he is taking nearly 100 yard shots with it to kill things from their version of ground squirrels, to small monkeys, and pigeons.

that imo is worth the range price to shoot at a range.

now if your example person was using a toy airsoft BB gun, i can see your viewpoint on it being a waste of money to pay for a range fee for.

Where, exactly, would you like him to go?

Airsoft ranges won't allow real air rifles because they can't handle it.

Any reasonably urban area will treat an air rifle just like a real rifle, especially in CA.

Maybe he doesn't have much of a back yard?

Maybe he doesn't want to scare the neighbors?

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.
