It is true. I kept going back to see if it really happened, and it did. I had to keep going back to verify I was not imagining it, so far it has happened 25 more times.

I go to BLM solo quite a bit (well used to, when it is open to shooting and I actually have time to make it out). When solo I'd keep a sidearm and slinged rifle when going out to set targets or really do anything away from the gear table. When near the table there is always a loaded rifle handy.

Where I go it 7 miles off pavement but it is along a named road at the end of the BLM property.

I have not experienced anything dangerous yet. Stupid and idiotic people but no one where I felt actually threatened by someone

BLM can be pretty bad. there were people at toumey hills shooting perpendicular to each other vs parallel. Most of the time letting them know that its not safe to do that will settle the matter. sometimes you get GI jack ***** or tactical mall ninja who doesn't give a crap and does it anyways. Thats when its time to go unless you want to be a witness to an idiot shooting another idiot because he wanted to be hardcore...

What actually happens out there? I haven't heard of people getting shot and killed on BLM land. I have heard of people being shot at, supposedly, but it seems like if that really happened a lot, there would be a lot of people who got hit.

I always regret reading threads like this. I get sucked in, like a Stephen KIng novel, and can't put it down.
Always plenty of people who "heard of" and "know someone who knew a guy", or there "once was"(but the story is 30 years old), and so on.
There's a big difference between possible and likely, is what I say.
And, the most dangerous part of our day when we go to BLM land, is our freeway drive there and back.

I recall reading a thread here about a calgunner who shot himself via negligent discharge from his 50 Beowulf while he was shooting solo on blm land. I'm on my cell right now so I can't find it

I had border patrol roll up on me after I opened one of those water caches they have out near the border. They came out of nowhere...and fast... There is water in them but it's a trap.

They were cool but I think they were annoyed that I drove and walked all over their freshly groomed strip of sand along the border fence. I wonder if they hey saw me climb across. You know you're not supposed to but it's just sitting here asking to be climbed... And it's only like 5 ft tall. Ya kind of have to.

Yes it can be very dangerous, but any place can be dangerous with idiots having weapons.

I was out at Hodge with my wife and nephew, and we were setup against a hill side. After about an hour I noticed that there were bullets hitting within 50 feet around us. I told the wife and nephew to get in the SUV and drove 200 yards to find a group of 7-8 shooters setting their targets in a flat area and shooting in our direction. I yelled at the a-holes that they're going to kill someone as there were other shooters in the area I was shooting. Told them to stop and their their act together and know gun safety before using their guns again. Some people just doesn't have any common sense and risk other people lives.

I have gone back a few times after that but have always made sure to put the SUV behind my back just in case.
