Is BLM land really that dangerous?

Whenever I see people ask about shooting on BLM land, lots of people warn them saying things like not to go alone, carry a sidearm at all times, don't use all your ammo, etc.

What actually happens out there? I haven't heard of people getting shot and killed on BLM land. I have heard of people being shot at, supposedly, but it seems like if that really happened a lot, there would be a lot of people who got hit.

It’s not dangerous as far as other random bad people go I used to shoot there all the time. The most dangerous thing is other shooters that you didn’t go with.

For example we got peppered with bird shot by some Elmer Fudd duck hunters. It was about like feeling light sprinkling rain. My friend who is USMC vet was about to return fire with his 7mm Rem mag...muscle memory I guess.

Just use common sense. If you pull into a parking spot and there are numerous cars there with Raiders or LB decals on them, keep going.
And pick up your trash and a bit more, so we don't lose these areas.

It's really dangerous stay away. Especially the desert off the 8. Very spooky. Definitely do not go there.

Haha! That's right. Raiders fans are like a gang!

I've been shooting into a hill, and some other people decided to shoot at the other side of the hill. Now, this was quite a tall hill, so we weren't in danger, but ricocheting bullets were whizzing over our heads and it was a little unnerving. Some high-arching ones even landed fairly close to us (within 100 yards).

I love the desert and always pick up 100% of my casings and any that I find from other shooters, as well as trash they were shooting at if I can fit it in my car.

A good buddy went riding on BLM with his brother. When they got to their spot there was a truck parked 100 yards from them with a guy laying in the back of the truck with the tailgate down and his legs hanging off the tailgate, like if he was laying down taking a nap after a long ride. His bike was parked next to the truck. After a long ride in the desert they returned to the same seen with the guy still laying down in the bed of his truck...they found that the guy had been shot dead...

So ya, it can be dangerous...

Situational awareness, stay armed until you leave. If you have CCW even better. You are in remote area advertising with loud noises you have expensive stuff desirable to criminals.

They wake up at noon, smoke pot, and then drive out to the desert

I kinda think city folk just panic once the WiFi cuts out - who knows, they could stub a toe, get dirt in their Birkenstock’s or irritate a cuticle - what happens if no one has an emery board available?!

I learned this from my BIL in 1972 when we would go shooting out in Castaic . We would leave as soon as the first manson family types would show up.
