We have threads on here about Walmart carrying .38sw, but expecting a 'sporting goods' store to also carry it is expecting too much?

Be honest: most of you know absolutely nothing about .38sw and would rather jump on the "it's obsolete" bandwagon than admit it.
I don't shoot it either, but I do know that I have seen it for sale in big box stores on multiple occasions.

I don't understand. Is he being forced out for being an ammo-grabbing fascist or for being a failure as an ammo-grabbing fascist?

I get your point but... who here REALLY thinks "Big5" when considering their gun needs? Honestly, who thinks "sporting goods store" when thinking about their gun needs in this state?

We all know Big5 is pretty much for basketballs and toy inflatable rafts only.

We used to have one nearby and while the had bullets and some rifles, I only ever went in there to buy some gun oil and maybe a bore snake.

Before I started reloading, I would squeeze in range time at the last minute without very much prior planning. As ammo was always cheaper at the box stores, that meant it was time to google whatever was the most convenient to get to. That usually meant Big 5 or Walmart.
Bore snakes and ammo were the only reason I ever went to Big 5.

I'm just happy the Marine Corps moved me back out of the godforaken wasteland that is southern California

          Big 5 in the 80's and 90's -

I bought 3 Chinese SKS's, Yugo Mauser, Israeli Mauser, Spanish 1916, LE Mk III, LE No.4, at least one of my Mosin Nagants and probably others that I don't remember off the top of my head.

I use to wait for their insert in my morning paper to see if I should cut out at lunch and try to pick up whatever they had for sale.

Was my second favorite gun store after Traders in San Leandro - use to buy the Oakland paper on Thursdays just for the Traders' ad.

I thought just about everyone knew about Zulu????????? I don't think I ever heard anyone call it obscure before.

I've never heard of a film called Zulu before this thread.

OP, what did you expect from a 19 year old kid working at Big 5?

To have a meaningful conversation about a cartridge that fell out of fashion before either of you were born?

                Kid:

                38 S&W? Do you mean 38 S&W Long, or 38 S&W Special?

Oh, well we are fresh out of 38 S&W Long, but we do have some vintage 38 Colt New Police ammo from Union Metallic Cartridge, circa 1931. It is compatible with 38 S&W Long, just a different bullet style.

They are $100 per box of 50. Cool, you paid for these in buffalo nickels.

I am aware I may be in the minority on this issue, but I have never had a bad experience with Big 5. The one that is in the town I grew up in has the same manager since the day that store opened. Same guy sold us baseball gloves, bats, cleats, shoes, rollerblades, backpacks, camping gear over the years.

I stopped by there a while ago to check out pellets and he was still there, behind the counter and as friendly as ever. Bought an 870 and 10/22 there when on sale. Smooth transactions, zero issues.

I got nothing bad to say about big 5.

Is this the big 5 on 17th? They kept me in .22 during the lean years, but always sucked for centerfire.
