Gun owners do not show up to protest. If they won’t show up, how will the legislators know who is serious? Sending an email is easy and just as easily ignored. If 100,000 of you showed up, maybe the losers would run from Excremento like they did in Richmond.

Nahhhh...can’t take the day off with six months notice. Such things are impossible. Back to (insert TV show here).

Honestly, I have just been including ammo on nearly every DROS I've done since the new law went into effect, the law caused an increase in ammo purchases and firearm purchases for me.

The clerk said I probably need to go onto CFARS to create an account and "register" a firearm since I have not purchased a firearm since 2010 and I changed my address in 2013.

This does not make sense, I have a CCW and multiple handguns and they have all been registered.

I went to the website and entered a handgun of mine that is on my CCW, entered the old address of where I lived when I purchased that handgun and my current address too.

I then went to my "cart" and it had the handgun listed and no dollar amount for the update.

When I submitted the info after I previewed it, it said "since the transaction required no payment, the reports were submitted successfully for DOJ review".

Is this normal? I was told there is a fee I had to pay after doing all of this.

It's one of the facts of life, one that our founding fathers recognized, that there is little that government can do efficiently and effectively.

It's becoming less relevant as time passes, but before 1991 it was legal to purchase privately, no dealer involved, and such transfers would not be recorded in the State's AFS database.

But there is no 'recency' requirement - a record of a handgun transfer from 2000 is just fine, so long as your address is the same.

If all one has ever purchased is a long gun, then a purchase would have to be from 2014 or later; AFS did not record long gun DROS info until 2014.
So can you do that, then go back online and update to the correct address (maybe after you buy the ammo)?

The background check is only to see if you can legally possess guns and ammo.
You could only own a shotgun in the system and you can buy all the pistol and rifle ammo you want.
That's how its not supposed to work.

Bass Pro San Jose, whose gun & ammo section DOJ closed for 2 weeks around Christmas, told me exactly that. "You can not buy a caliber of handgun ammunition for a caliber not on your DROS".

I pointed out that was not correct, she was adamant. So like any smart shopper, I waited a day so she would be not working and poof- the gun Manager then said "she's wrong, c'mon in". I did and was in/out in no time. Play the game, just play the game.

Look at the bight side. You have to buy a gun. How terrible is that. Get your Real ID. buy a gun. then buy all the ammo you want whenever you want. It's not hard.

That's not how the law works.

                          Here's the law:
                          30370

                          (a) Commencing July 1, 2019, the department shall electronically approve the purchase or transfer of ammunition through a vendor, as defined in Section 16151, except as otherwise specified. This approval shall occur at the time of purchase or transfer, prior to the purchaser or transferee taking possession of the ammunition. Pursuant to the authorization specified in paragraph (1) of subdivision (c) of Section 30352, the following persons are authorized to purchase ammunition:

                          (1) A purchaser or transferee whose information matches an entry in the Automated Firearms System (AFS) and who is eligible to possess ammunition as specified in subdivision (b).

                          (2) A purchaser or transferee who has a current certificate of eligibility issued by the department pursuant to Section 26710.

                          (3) A purchaser or transferee who is not prohibited from purchasing or possessing ammunition in a single ammunition transaction or purchase made pursuant to the procedure developed pursuant to subdivision (c).

                          (b) To determine if the purchaser or transferee is eligible to purchase or possess ammunition pursuant to paragraph (1) of subdivision (a),

the department shall cross-reference the ammunition purchaser’s or transferee’s
                          - name,
                          - date of birth,
                          - current address, and
                          - driver’s license or other government identification number, as described in Section 28180,

with the information maintained in the AFS.

If the purchaser’s or transferee’s information does not match an AFS entry, the transaction shall be denied.

If the purchaser’s or transferee’s information matches an AFS entry, the department shall determine if the purchaser or transferee falls within a class of persons who are prohibited from owning or possessing ammunition by cross-referencing with the Prohibited Armed Persons File. If the purchaser or transferee is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm, the transaction shall be denied.
Do you see 'match AFS record with gun in caliber of ammunition purchased'?

Just wondering out loud about how long it will be until the elite special people in Sacramento decide to be more help to you by setting limits on how much and what kinds of that evil ammo you should have. After all it's for your own good.....right?

The system does not have a way to check what calibers the guns you own are chambered in or give a reason for denial.
There's not even a way for a counterworker to know that.
If you got a denial, it was most likely for address mismatch or an entry typo by the counterworker.

Did the counterworker perhaps ask you if you own a gun in 6.5 Creedmoor and you told them that you did not and then he simply denied you without even running a check?
