    DENIED AMMO PURCHASE TODAY!!

I have not purchased ammo since 2010.

I went to buy some shotgun shells and was denied.

The clerk said I probably need to go onto CFARS to create an account and "register" a firearm since I have not purchased a firearm since 2010 and I changed my address in 2013.

This does not make sense, I have a CCW and multiple handguns and they have all been registered.

I went to the website and entered a handgun of mine that is on my CCW, entered the old address of where I lived when I purchased that handgun and my current address too.

I then went to my "cart" and it had the handgun listed and no dollar amount for the update.

When I submitted the info after I previewed it, it said "since the transaction required no payment, the reports were submitted successfully for DOJ review".

Is this normal? I was told there is a fee I had to pay after doing all of this.

Maybe the fee is when you go back and should be 19? I don't know either thanks for letting us know.

this is why the current opinion is to pay the $19 fee the first time if you haven't bought guns in the last 3-5 years. that way you get on record.

then anytime after that you can pay the $1 fee.

If it was a handgun that you purchased in CA after 1925, it was already in the system so all you did was update your address.
I would think it should not be necessary to pay a fee to update your address.

The $19 ammo background check does not get you a gun registration record in the system.
You pay the $19 each time you purchase ammo until you get a gun registration record in the system.

            ohhh.

guess i misunderstood that from some of the earlier threads on this issue when the law first kicked in.

so as long as one has purchased a gun, you should be able to use the $1 check? regardless of how long ago it was?

want about if it was a self-registration? got a buddy that transferred his dad's gun to his name and did the mail in thing.

As long as your name/address is the same as when you purchased your last gun in CA, you should be able to use the $1 check.
If you have not purchased ANY long guns since 2014 or handguns since 1925, you might not be in the system.

This - note emphasis I added.

It's becoming less relevant as time passes, but before 1991 it was legal to purchase privately, no dealer involved, and such transfers would not be recorded in the State's AFS database.

But there is no 'recency' requirement - a record of a handgun transfer from 2000 is just fine, so long as your address is the same.

If all one has ever purchased is a long gun, then a purchase would have to be from 2014 or later; AFS did not record long gun DROS info until 2014.

Funny how they implement these crap laws to get us to stop buying ammo and guns, yet the solution to the problem is to buy guns. Ha!

This is why it's a bulls*** law. Now, not only does the DOJ know what kind of gun you now just bought, they now know what kind of ammo you have AND how much of it.

It's none of the DOJs frigging business how much and what kind of ammo you and I buy. Now, if say you wanna go buy ammo for say the sake of this example...you wanna buy ammo for a 45-70 your buddy has and you walk up to buy it, you're gonna get denied because you are NOT in their systems as owning any kind of firearm in 45-70.

Unless you are in the systems as having bought a firearm in 45-70 which in turn now identifies you as having one or not and this is why everyone will get denied buying ammo for something they may or may not own.

                        Following me here??

Best solution to this, vote the Democrats outta office...or just move to another state.

That's NOT how the law works at all.
There is no restrictions on ammo types you can buy vs guns that you own.
The background check is only to see if you can legally possess guns and ammo.
You could only own a shotgun in the system and you can buy all the pistol and rifle ammo you want.

The background check for ammo also records how much ammo you're purchasing?
