I’d give it ten years. A denial will make it more difficult in the future.

Here is what you do, Go apply, be 100% honest, do not try to hide anything or be vague and that is all you can do. One of 2 things will happen, you will get turned down or you will be approved. But if you do not try you will 100% for sure not get your CCW.https://thedeplorablepatriot.com/

Whatever you do, make sure you have an EXACT accounting of all of your arrests, juvenile adjudications, and convictions. Failure to disclose anything or to disclose it properly may he more damning than the criminal issues themselves. If you dont have your old court records, start by ordering a copy of your rap sheet.Expert firearms attorney: https://www.rwslaw.com/team/adam-j-richards/

I absolutely would not apply until 10 years have passed since your last arrest. I would not apply right now just to see what happens.Comment

^^^^ This! You were about to embark down a road of a lot, and I mean a lot of research and work, time and effort that my opinion will be for nothing in the end. California is not a shall issue state and the liability that the sheriffs department would face, giving you a CCW with your background and then having you somehow abuse it, would be galactic. Be realistic and look at it from their standpoint, they have far more to lose than anything to gain by issuing you a permit.
I know this is not what you wanna hear but it's the truth. You have made some really ****ty choices as an adult and now you are going to have to suck it up and deal with the consequences; probably the most difficult and most telling part of being a responsible adult, something you are very late to the game at being.
If you really want to to hold a CCW now, move to a shell issue state or Constitutional carry state. If you really want a shot at getting one in California, as things currently stand legally, you're going to have to invest far more time living a law abiding responsible life. As mentioned above, at least 10 years. With the criminal / social record YOU HAVE EARNED, you would be ineligible to "enlist" in the US military, much less ever EVER qualify for a commission.
That is my opinion. Many on this forum seem to be a bit Pollyanna like in their approach to giving advice or dealing with people. I am not. They try ever so hard to tel people what they want to hear. I'm telling yiu want I think you NEED to hear. Do not invest the time...yet.
If you really must "know" for yourself now, I suggest you make an appointment with the sheriffs office and go down and disclose this all in a meeting and see what they say, as others have mentioned.
Here in California, unfortunately, a CCW is not a right but a very guarded and dearly earned privilage.Last edited by OCEquestrian; 12-08-2019, 7:26 AM."Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue." ----Sen. Barry Goldwater

I'd say call or email the Sheriff's Department before you apply. I had a DUI 5 years before I applied, and everyone was saying to wait 10 years. I talked to a local deputy (El Dorado County) and he said I'd be fine. And I was. Just own up to your mistakes, be genuinely remorseful, and explain that it was an error in judgement, not an error in character.

THIS. Call, email, maybe even go in and ask. It's amazing how people listen when you're personable, and responsible.I'd say call or email the Sheriff's Department before you apply. Don't try and sell them on your turn-around. Just the facts.
Congrats on turning your life around. It takes a lot of conviction to do that.Comment

In the mean time get AZ CCW.Comment

Assumption based on zero fact. They do ask if you were ever denied. The fact you were by itself will not effect their decision, the reason you were denied could.Only slaves don't need guns

FWIW, i hope you don’t get a CCWComment

Congrats on turning your life around! That really should really the focus. A CCW is nice but having a "life" is of much, much more value. The probability of needing a firearm is statistically very low, the probability of having a crappy life if you don't lead a clean life is about 99.8 percent.
Be patient,
reality is most issuing agencies want about 10 years. Think about getting the arrests expunged. I had a bad thing on my record from when I was young and dumb many years ago. I have had CCW for over ten now, looking to renew July. Enjoy your "clean life" make lots o money, stay healthy.

Well...that's really helpful.

So do I. My point being that your terse comment was not helpful without further text to clarify your position on the matter.
As to whether or not the OP should be issued a CCW permit is not within my purview, nor is it really any of my business.
