    Proper Purchase Etiquette

I say the gun gets inspected in the shop before money is exchanged.

I started this thread because I had an unreasonable seller demanding that I inspect the gun in the parking lot and pay him prior to walking in the shop. Why the **** would I do that? I don’t know you and I certainly don’t trust you. If you’re not willing to cooperate with the buyer then you’re not getting the money. Don’t make crazy demands like I’m obligated to break the law for you. I’m not checking the gun in your car and paying you before I walk into the store. This ain’t Texas!

Judging my the numerous posts on here I see that everyone has had a different experience and a lot of guys agree with me. The bottom line is if you’re selling something or buying something then you make the customer feel comfortable. Whether it’s a car or a gun. You don’t just make crazy demands. There’s 40 million people in California, I’ll buy it from someone else!

During any PPT I have done...

        I let buyer inspect firearm.

I'll even let them shoot it if its a used gun and PTT is at a range.

If buyer wants someone where the PTT takes place to inspect, that's fine too.

If there is a fee for it, they will pay for that.

But I usually collect after we walk out from doing transfer, and they are satisfied.

Fact is, the only real downside to any PPT will always be the shop handling the process.

If they are slow....the process is painful.

Or the buyer gets denied....also a painful experience.

Isn't it obvious? You pay outside and the guy walks. You're SOL!

Depends on who the gun store is run by.

I wouldn't trust a Turner's employee to give me advice on a gun I was buying.

on the other hand, if I were selling a gun, adn the buyer wanted to have it checked out, ON HIS DIME, by a respected gunsmith, I'd be OK with that.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

Several FFLs require to inspect the merchandise before proceeding with the DROS. But they are inspecting for the safety purposes not the condition of it.

Yes, exactly. Then you exchange money. I just did one right now at Rifle Supply in HB. They even took it in the back and checked the barrel for the guy. Great shop!

I have never had a firearm inspected(other than empty) by anyone but me, buying or selling. It’s pretty simple.
Know what you’re buying, look at all the pics (you DID ask for pics right)???
Examine it(or shoot if possible), take it, or leave it.

You guys are missing the point. It's not just about the condition of the gun. The shop has the gun at which point you walk outside and exchange money. Or if the shop allows, exchange right there. I'm not paying anyone outside in their truck!

Shop has nothing to do with a PPT. It's in between the seller and buyer.
If you can't inspect a firearm to look for misuse or a part damaged. You shouldn't be buying used. If your buying a collector's item you should know what your buhing.

You never leave a shop while someone has your firearm.
I have done three PPT this year and many in the past. I inspect in the parking lot.
Pay in the parking lot. Or wait till the clerk is busy with the paperwork. Then pay the seller.

for ppt - it's between the buyer and the seller. lgs has no involvement in inspecting the gun.

Shop/ffl not involved in transaction except dros. Ignorant statement no ffl should be involved if they say OK then they have liability. No upside for them. Obvious why 21due has no Itrader rating.
