This guy right here sheesh, seriously considering thinning down my collection, trying to decide. the only guns that i have "multiples" of are ar-15's and .22's. everything else i have picked up either because it was a really good deal or a unique or hard to find gun. that having been said, i have 1 son, who has chosen to go live with his mom and was never really into guns, so if and when i die, i'm not sure where they will go, what will happen to them. On top of that, i've lately been thinking more and more about trying to go off-grid and be self sustaining, which means downsizing considerably and ease of movement would be a benefit.
hence the question. i really enjoy having what i have, but the reality is i haven't shot any of them in several years. i would probably keep the ar's and ak's, at least a couple handguns, and at the very least a couple .22's and a couple hunting rifles. i'm also thinking that if i'm going to "thin the herd", it might be best to maybe get more of all 1 type of handgun instead of having 1 ea of several different types? i know this is a strange question, but i started out collecting both as an investment as well as for fun, but now i'm looking at things more as what do i actually "need" for survival etc. looking for other's thoughts on the subject.
its not about needs its the bill of rights! Now that that's clear you have a right to have as big or little as a collection as want.
Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your Honour
Let's pray for Obama Psalm 109:8

After having close to 17 firearms I am down to a Mossberg 590 that I might replace with 590 Mariner, next will be a 4 inch GP100 stainless and Marlin Model XT-22TSR. If I come across a nice Winchester Model 12 or a Wingmaster in the future might get it for their purism to shotguns!seriously considering thinning down my collection, trying to decide. the only guns that i have "multiples" of are ar-15's and .22's. everything else i have picked up either because it was a really good deal or a unique or hard to find gun. that having been said, i have 1 son, who has chosen to go live with his mom and was never really into guns, so if and when i die, i'm not sure where they will go, what will happen to them. I guess that could always work to sweeten a deal, but probably your loss.
Leave any cool ones in CA if you leave, sell them at a fair price.
Someone in a free state isn't going to think much of my 9mm Shield with CA skate ramp safety, mag safety, etc... or my GEN3 Glocks and old XD's, SSE priced CA coolness that are old news everywhere else. One of the guns I wish I could buy most is a CZ P10C which is like $300 on sale in free states. Same for the Caniks.Comment

for many years i basically kept a pump shotgun,a lever action 357 mag, a single action 44 mag that ive hunted with extensively for over 30 years, a 22 revolver, a 22 bolt action and a old ruger semi auto 9mm handgun and then about when i hit 57 i went nuts, lol. im 64 and still nuts it seems as i buy a gun every chance i get now. i am currently thinking maybe i should sell some but only to upgrade. its just hard to get rid of any at this time though, lol. ammo is a whole nother story as im stacked. one thing i have realized lately is that i have several thousand bucks invested just in magazines as well. good luck on downsizing op.Comment
