Not buying ammo, but I was unable to pick up my new gun today because the DROS system is down due to the ammo background check mess. Hopefully it gets fixed before I leave town to go shooting in the desert on the 4th.

Just got home from Kings Gun Center in Hanford.
Bought box of Hornady .22 WMR 45 grain, a box of CCI .22LR 40 grain and just to see if it got flagged I tossed in a box of Federal .380 auto 95 grain (I have no such thing).
Had to give her my drivers license (not a Real ID yet, just the old standard issue) to type into computer, asked for my Race. I said NASCAR but it wasn't funny to her so I said White. All other races get a fancy name but I get a colorless white (I'm offended and hurt).
She hit the Enter key and my DROS background check was complete in less than a minute.
Then she had to enter in the above Ammo selections for purchase, that took less than 5 minutes. Each Type of ammo requires a separate page for yours and Salespersons Signature, I had 3 pages. I have no .380 auto but it was not flagged. I was curious about buying ammo for guns I do not have.
Turns out it was not an issue.
Once those 3 pages were printed out I signed them and done, we can now move over to the cash register to complete the actual purchase.
Swiped the VISA for $43 and sale done, $1 for background.
I have no CCW, no FFL or COE, I'm retired military and it matters not.
I am a member at this range but it matters not.
I did ask about shooting and buying ammo.
If you are shooting on the range then no background check is required, just get the ammo and shoot.
Background check is required only if you are buying and leaving.
No other customers in store at this time and they had 4 Sales people on hand.
I expect the tax/fee will increase not unlike the cigarette tax.

Reminds me lots of how mail order guns got banned.
First there was a problem cause anyone could buy a gun through the mail.
So lets make those who want to buy mail order get an FFL for 3 bucks --pretty easy send 3 bucks and a little info and your good to go .
Next step decades later (Clinton) raises FFLs fee's from 35 to $ 675 ! Oh and BTW you sell too many guns and BTW you sell too few and BTW is there is church or school within a certain distance from where you sell ?
Its nice things are smooth so far. Im thinking the state isn't delighted with the lawsuit NRA has filed and they would not like to see gunners contribute to the victory fund.Comment

Ammunition Purchase Authorization Program
FAQ from DOJ https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/apfaqs#24
Does the caliber of the ammunition I’m purchasing have to match the firearm information that is on record with the Department?
- No.

How can they tell if you owned that firearm? What if you have a gun from before records were kept?

What I was told is there is a register of the guns you own at that residence ( we know why)
If you have a gun from where you lived be fire you have to do the 19 dollar up to 10 day waitSign on the dotted line....Comment

Hopefully Judge Benitez will hear it!Here's what the AP is reporting...
Glitches snarl start of California's ammo background checks
California's new ammunition background check law began Monday not with a bang but with a whimper from dealers who reported delays and glitches with the state's online system... Chuck Michel, an attorney for the National Rifle Association and the affiliated California Rifle & Pistol Association, said he will soon cite the glitches in seeking an injunction to block the law...

Where was this so I avoid that place. I thought #1 hasn't passed. And #2 is not required.

March 16, 2020, is that a joke?Originally posted by sbrady@Michel&Associates[/QUOTENo, not a joke.
Nor does it mean we necessarily will have to wait until then for relief.
That is a pretrial date, meaning it is only relevant if we go to trial on this matter (as opposed to resolving the matter on motions, which is usually the case in these legal issue cases).Comment
