Went to Sportsman's Warehouse and had no problem at all just using my CDL. I was at Walmart today shopping with my wife and saw a good deal on Federal 9mm for 16.9 cents a round. So I was like cool I'll take a 1000 rds to go please here's my CDL. That's when the guy asked me for my birth certificate or passport in addition to my CDL. I guess that's Walmart's store policy. Now I'm back at home looking for my birth certificate.

Walmart Madera didn't give me any trouble when I used my old school plain jane unmarked DL. The person I got had only done one transaction prior and was super slow but they told me that up front so I had no issue with it. Took 15mins. at 9pm.

I was invited to go skeet shooting at USI Concord last weekend and while my friend supplied a shotgun for me, I had to buy my own ammunition. Thinking nothing of it I went to buy some at the range store. I forgot completely about the new rules and even though I passed the background check, I was a bit disconcerted when they asked for my home phone number.

Now I'm in their system, me sitting here with 25k+ rounds ready to go for all I have and now this, all because I don't own a good skeet gun. It could be worse, I guess.

I've had two experiences buying ammo since the new law took effect. I have a RealID, and most of my guns are registered to my current address, so in theory, I should breeze through the process.

My first purchase was at Walmart about two weeks ago, and it went relatively smoothly. The Walmart employee told me that I had to complete the transaction within 10 minutes of being approved or I would have to start all over with a new instant background check.

My second purchase was at Ammo Bros yesterday. I waited 10 minutes after they submitted my info to the DOJ, but my approval never came back. I finally had to leave the store to get to a meeting. About 15 minutes after I left, they called me and said that my approval finally came back. They said I had 18 hours to make my purchase after the initial approval, so I went back this morning and bought the ammo I needed.

I have heard that a high percentage of instant background checks are coming back as denied, some of them quite possibly in error. A deputy I know has been denied twice.

Just curious if many people are being denied ammo purchases due to erroneous instant background checks?

                Denied

Went into my favorite bulk ammo supplier and was denied.
I have about 40 registered firearms and all have been purchased in CA. The last one just 2 months ago.
Have lived at the same address for over 20 years. Most of the firearms having been purchased at my current address.
I have no background issues whatsoever.
The ammo store stated that I was his 5th customer of the day to be denied.
He gave me a link to DOJ CFARS. I re-registered one of my Glocks to see if it will populate the new database or whatever.
                We'll see what happens.
I'm by no means shocked. I've been staying 2 steps ahead of the crap for 30 years and I know there is a long list of roadblocks the anti's have in store.

Smart folks stocked up before the bans. I did. I'll be one that will probably never need to buy ammo in CA ever again.

I've been stocking up for 30 years but no amount is ever enough unless you have like 1 million rounds or more ammo that you can shoot in a lifetime.

I'd like to be able to actually go to the range and shoot.

Ive been checking the WALMART ammo dept and everytime I check, it's fully stocked and nobody is buying, no sales clerk in dept.

looks like ammo sales are slow, same low prices.

I've dros'd ammo 6 time or so already. Just a LONG process

Friday went to Turners and had to sign 8 different forms, one for each caliber I was buying. Oh and since I wasn't allowed to handle the box of 556, I didn't realize I had green tips until i got home and not allowed at the range I was going to on Friday. Dros more ammo at a walmart same night. Again another long process, the lady working there was fairly quick unlike the guy 2 weeks ago who was flipping through the book of printed papers.

I hope it gets over turned soon. such PITA....

Curious about this. The Automated Firearms System "AFS" does not contain data on rifles or shotguns. "AFS" only contains information on handguns and assault weapons.

The CA DOJ should not have any record of who owns a shotgun or rifle, and there shouldn't be an address associated with rifles or shotguns either.

That's what I was told at Ammo Bros June 30th, don't have to have a gun in the caliber of ammo being bought after July 1st.

I got some DoubleTap 9mm on clearance at Turners Saturday. Clerk saw my real ID and said that saves a lot of work.
