Seems like the issue here is the difference between tactical shooting in an assault type situation and defensive shooting in a CCW type scenario. As some have mentioned, if you've cleared the room in a defensive shooting situation you probably don't need to spend too much time worrying about there being a half dozen guys in the next room unless you are involved in some seriously sketchy activities.

In a street attack type defensive shooting, there's virtually zero chance of needing to do a tactical reload. Most likely if you haven't eliminated the threat by the end of your magazine, you're dead. Of course there will be somebody somewhere who benefits from reloading in a defensive situation, but the question always boils down to - what level of risk is actually worth preparing for? We could wear helmets and five point harnesses while driving to the store, but we don't. (at least California doesn't require it... yet)

Of course if you're preparing to zombie apocalypse or civil war, well that's different.

More then one CCW or LEO was shot by a second assailant in a "street attack type defensive shooting" because they assumed there was only one assailant.

Train how you want but I prefer to train to always have a fully loaded and functional firearm, thus the tactical reload.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

More than one... Yeah there's 320+ million people. I said it could happen. Several people could have been saved by having a small fire extinguisher on their belt. Got one?

As you said, train how you want. It also makes a difference if your lifestyle means you might be attacked by multiple people who specifically want to kill you. Mine doesn't.

Odds of even being in a shootout * odds of needing to reload * odds of being attacked during that reload = acceptable risk in my humble opinion.

As I said, train how YOU want. For the risks YOU are willing to accept. Only you can answer that.

For me a tactical Reload takes seconds and unless your firearm has a mag disconnect your firearm remains functional and on target during the entire reload.

Hypothetical question; if you and I were in a gunfight at mid-range and I had to do a rifle mag change from behind cover and then move behind you with a ‘ho ...

Im by no means tactical but I do practice counting and reloading when mag is empty but round in chamber. Some times im dead on others there are 1 or 2 in the mag (after panic shooting drills)

You guys worry too much. I am not getting paid to stick out and battle it out with someone in a defensive situation.

If I need to shoot, I shoot until I can get to cover or get away. If I need to reload on the move or once behind cover I will if I have not popped off more than a few rounds. Then continue to working to extricate myself of the situation.

I am in way too deep if 6-10 rounds each in two mags can't get me to safety and whatever I could safe via tactical reload is probably useless.

It's worthwhile checking out his other videos online. In addition to being a serious BTDT teacher, he's also a pretty funny guy.

Retaining a partially spent mag in your hand while performing a tac reload is institutionalized retardation. I think people who advocate that need to watch this video and hear what Bob Keller has to say about it.

During competition, I will drop a partially spent mag for a fresh one to get to the finish avoiding an empty gun reload.

Slide lock during fire fight, as an big sign saying your out of bullets. No bueno.

Yeah, you should work on that.

When he writes about safeties being manipulated with automaticity, that has pretty clear implications.
