The good news is if you went or watched the hearing, the pro 2A peeps were out in force, and outnumbered the antis 5-10 to 1.

The fact that they went ahead and passed it shows that they did not care about the peoples will and are ready to sign any anti 2A bill. That is the sad/scary part.
Did Stalin care about the people's will? Of course not.

Something similar has been introduced in the House at the Federal level. H.R. 8. It's hilarious because there is no registry at the Federal level, so it's unenforceable unless you do a transfer right in front of Federal LE.

They just passed SB143 which expands background checks to private sales just like here in CA.
      FUD much?
      It passed a committee.
      Not a full senate vote.
      Not an assembly vote.
      A committee.

EXACTLY! But it's NOT just Californians causing the issue, it's population in general. We are seeing anti-gun bills in all kinds of states (FL, CT, NJ, CO, WA, OR and VA.) You CAN'T claim that it's ALL Californians causing this. It's simple POPULATION. As they population grows, so will the call for gun control.

still a step. and who makes up these committees? oh yea, the senators and assembly members who will also vote on it again if this bill makes it further. the next step is now the assembly, which after it to the governor, which iirc is a blue democrat Stephen F. Sisolak who has gun control as one of his policies.

you think this thing would even pass a committee in idaho, montana, utah, or any other deep red state with strong gun ownership ideals?

            no.

NV is turning blue, and this is the first step in that. so while yes, the headlines make it a bit more dramatic, it is still something for those in NV to be worried about.

Didn’t they already pass it once though, like a year ago - governor signature and everything? IIRC the old attorney general said it couldn’t be enforced/implemented because of a NICS issue. They will pass it once again now that they have a fresh Dem AG.

                    Yes.
It was passed as a ballot measure, voted in by the voters, not as a law through the assembly and signed by governor.
The NV attorney general said it can't be implemented because of how the NV state background check laws do not allow a NICS background check to be run for private sales.
This new law is to rearrange the background check system used by NV FFL's to also allow them to run background checks for private party transfers.

Ah, I forgot - yes it was a ballot measure. It will be interesting to see where this latest one goes...

i think it was on the ballot in 2017

Steve Sisolak is trying very hard to get this passed and implement a way for it to work - i don't think he understands that he doesn't get to tell the Feds how to operate

he campaigned on banning bump stocks, standing up to Trump and getting teachers more money

Sisolak wasn't just targeting Trump, he made a lot of hay bashing the NRA.

Vacationed in Vegas last summer and had the displeasure of seeing his and his opponent's campaign ads blasting local TV during the run-up to their election. Both candidates had an identical strategy ... spend about 20% of the airtime bashing each other, the other 80% screeching about how they'll "STAND UP TO BULLY TRUMP!!!!" and "STAND UP TO THE NRA!!!".

Sadly, Nevada is now purple and heading blue I believe ... and for the exact same reason as California. Both states have extensive rural areas, the majority of their actual space but with a minority of the population. The majority of the population, just like California, is clustered in two urban areas with a heavy union influence and dominated by industrial, economic and cultural traits vastly different than the rural areas.

Doubly sad as Nevada is (was?) on our list of potential places to move when I retire in 2022. My wife has family in the Carson Valley area (Gardnerville) and we've visited several times and I really like it. Although this is based on merely driving through a few times, the Smith Valley area seems very appealing. We'll have to see what the political climate is like in a few years but I'm sadly don't hold much hope.
