As someone that was thru a revolution I find having the right to speak and protect yourself is the ultimate freedom. I feel most Americans have no will or grit to rise up or even resit since they are to preoccupied with consumerism, football that mocks their roots or attacking their own with slight different opinions. Sad to say but the resistance can't be outsourced, has to be from inside.

I was originally thinking of adding, "except I do not mind the AR featureless variants." Been shooting with Thordsen stocks, have tried and played with different options as well, still like the AR options. My PTR91 and FAL both use grip fins with ptfe tape for fitting. I'd like to find something with a thumb shelf in the future.Comment

Well Im not 71 yet so I'm going to try and keep the culture alive at least till I get as old as you. The world is changing fast and when it destabilizes I dont want to be caught with nothing but my dick in my hands. Politicians that are trying to kill the 2nd are targeting the culture. But they are always going to have guys with guns protecting them. They can't guarantee that the average joe is going to be protected when their Socialist policies plunge the country into chaos.CRPA and NRA member.

At eight years into the hobby, it may also be that the "new" is wearing off. Of course, it doesn't help when you see all the negativity towards gun owners and a slew of new laws and restrictions every year making it tough to enjoy the sport.
Take some time off from shooting, or set up times to go with a friend if you've been going to the range alone. I know you have a lot of other interests, so maybe time to take a break with the guns until you feel motivated again.Comment

I don't really see it as a hobby. I see it as something that is required of me as a responsible citizen. No one's going to take care of me except for myself. If you were burned out because of the laws I don't blame you. I'm going to be moving soonsigpic

One thing about firearms as a hobby, as opposed to some other things, is you don't 'age out'. I can't do the same things on a river or on a mountain bike, like I used to do. But, despite eyes aging, I can still enjoy shooting.
In fact, some of my most fun firearms to shoot are ones that I have owned since I was in my teens, or the one old SKS that is actually older than I am.
I totally understand the negative reaction to the way California politicians and UN-elected bureaucrats (DOJ) violate the US Constitution. I deal with that also. I'm just using that as motivation to do the fixes the house needs so I can sell it and move to the USA.NRA Life Member CRPA Life Member

Because of all the anti-gun rhetoric and propaganda out there these days, I’ve done the opposite of you. I didn’t quit and resign my love of a hobby (disease for me really), I now buy MORE! More ammo, more guns, more gun cleaner stuff, more targets, more gun magazines and more subscription based periodicals.

I've found that having friends with similar interests helps me when I'm not feeling motivated. Perhaps OP can use some encouragement. Last time I went to the range, a guy let me shoot his Rossi lever gun, which was lots of fun, and wouldn't you know, know I'm out looking for yet another toy!Comment

OP, yep it sounds like you are in a "funk".
With all of these ridiculous gun laws that have nothing to do with safety (grip fins, mag release, etc.) and now they have attacked ammo buying, it can be depressing. I get it.
How about trying something new like was mentioned above (a lever gun) or perhaps a Ruger 9mm semi auto carbine (PCC). Something you don't have.
I think it would put a smile on your face and rejuvenate your interest in guns again.
Maybe shoot with some grandkids if you have any.
There is a satisfying feeling teaching "newbies" what you have accumulated over the years.
Maybe join a gun club for the social side of things as well as enjoying some of the events they have.
