    Target Masters Shut Down?

I cannot read the entire article (SJ Mercury News apparently only read 3 articles online for free) but it says Target Masters and a near-by gymnastics school are temporarily shut down due to high lead levels.

Screw the Murky News...that rag is nothing but a left wing liberal outlet intent on screwing everybody but the politicians they kiss up to...

        And...

Target Masters...hmmm...not surprised they have not followed all the rules...

To be honest when I shot my vepr12 there with a break on it, I’d get tons of smoke around the bays around me because it would kick the burnt powder out the sides and would get funny looks from ppl. But it would linger around after a mag that I’d have to put it down for a minute but I can see why ventilation there would be bad. Targetmasters and most gun ranges and shops are being attacked in California, just look at how they got Chabot closed down. This state is eventually going to make it illegal to shoot on your own private party no matter how secluded the area is. Main reason I plan on leaving this state and not just for the gun laws but the never ending list of BS.

Targetmasters is at least 35 years old.
I'm betting the barest minimum was spent on maintaining equipment like blowers and filters.

However, I went in today to pick up a purchase and the gun range itself was shut down due to an environmental inspection /audit. There were auditors taking lead samples in various locations, and I saw the owner outside in the parking lot conferring with a couple of the auditors. Not sure if was a city, county or state audit ( or a combination thereof), but it sounded like it wasn't the first such audit they've had recently. There was also mention of a reporter making contact and asking related questions.

Not sure what to make of it, but it didn't sound routine...
I used to shoot at target masters a lot. I liked being able to go there later at night to get a little bit of practice and it was convenient. I have bought guns from them and have taken quite a few new shooters there. About 10 to 15 years ago I had my doc do a lead test during a normal draw just to see where my levels were at. I was shooting 2 to 3 matches a month as well as reloading my own ammo and volunteering at my local outdoor range a couple times a week.

I wasn't really surprised when it came back at 29 mcg/dL, yet what was surprising is the only thing I stopped doing was shooting at indoor ranges and within a couple years it was back down to about 8 mcg/dL. I was still reloading and shooting matches and even started smelting lead and casting my own bullets, yet after I stopped shooting at target masters and other indoor ranges my levels went way down.

Google 'lead levels in blood' for a start, maybe??

Well at least they kinda have a good attitude about it.

Sucks now... just got my coworkers into firearms and have gone to TM during lunchtime and after work a few times in the past three weeks.

This is a very weird response from TMW, but the photos on the article are beyond damn'ing. being in commercial construction, i'm surprised that the city even allowed basic mushroom vents to be used for an indoor range vs a heavy-duty filtration system:

For the Last couple of months reporter Joe Rubin has been working to shut our facility down. He accomplished his goal yesterday and got the county to Red Tag us.
yes, after some obvious issues with your HVAC system and lead abatement

Joe's motives center around lead exposure and after more than one angle he found his mark. We would like to thank Mr. Rubin for his diligent effort to protect the public.
If you're literally next to a gymnastics studio, you should sort of care what PR nightmare it would be if your abatement isn't top notch. i recall Jackson Arms deny a guy bringing his 2 kids in b/c he tried to pass them off as over the age of 13 but they were clearly under 10 and lowkey dropped some knowledge on what lead does to a developing body.

take a look at pics from the report - there doesn't seem to be ANY abatement going on and that caked lead powder is easily blowing into the HVAC system of the gymnastics studio (which requires a LOT of outside air for cooling)

We are going to do our best to cleanup, upgrade and do the work to re open as soon as possible. Your prayers and emotional support are greatly appreciated.
too little too late at this point - forseeing lawsuits coming your way if any of the kids get tested positive. at this point, it's no longer a 2A vs anti-2A fight. if you skipped out on HVAC maintenance, its 100% your problem - especially when your business generates way more airborne lead than most others.

If you know any California Certified Lead Abatement people please have them drop their card at the range.
THIS. THIS is literally the nail in the coffin when you as a GUN RANGE have ZERO contacts for lead abatement. pull out a freakin' yellow pages or call other indoor ranges. this verbiage literally is potential damaging evidence when civil suits start rolling in.

Yup. I was thinking TM will probably get sued out of existence by the next door gym, their clients, & the insurance companies. Another SF Bay Area range gone.
