I agree with you 101%. Teachers get training in teaching their subject (Math, English, History...etc); they don't have combat training or shooting training. That should not be a requirement and most teachers won't shoot accurate anyway, and many of them would object to carrying a gun or get involved in a gun fire.
WHY IS THIS SO FREAKING HARD for our DUMB Politician to figure out??? You don't give guns to ticket checkers at the airport, right? That's why you have Armed Security - WELL..... HIRE Some Security for the Schools dumbasses!!!!!

I also don't think we need to resort to armed security/teachers for something that rarely happens. Don't need to lead students to believe that they're in a dangerous environment. Again, I do support getting rid of 'gun free zones' & allowing teachers to conceal carry, if they want to.I agree with you 101%. Exactly. Getting all wound up over this is playing into anti-gun folks hands. Your kid has a vastly greater chance of choking to death on their food than being killed in a school mass shooting."No personal computer will ever have gigabytes of RAM" - Scott NuddsComment

Cuz that's a good argument!
If you apply the same logic/reasoning, you wouldn't need to have a gun/rifle for home or self defense since the likelihood is slim to none that you will actually need one.
Here's another one. What's the chance of getting shot at by a nutjob from the 32nd floor of the Wynn Hotel while you're out with your buddies at a country western concert? One in a gazillion you say? Pffft. Well, the likelihood of that happening is next to nothing. It won't happen...until it does.
Again, dumb argument. You get a triple facepalm award!!!

Man you have hit upon a major fear of mine. I keep a handgun for home defense and I gotta tell you, I can totally see unloading 10 rounds on a dude from 20 feet away and missing entirely.
I am a great shot on the paper.... but totally different under stress.
I wonder how many people really appreciate that. Go watch some videos of convenience store shoot-outs.... pretty often the biggest danger to the perp is the flying glass they are getting showered with.Comment

It's a great argument, personal choice vs public policy. By choosing to own SD firearms I cost others nothing in additional tax burden. Same can't be said for public policy choices.
Yeah, I don't go to those sort of deals but I don't worry about mass shooters. Do you? Your commute is massively more dangerous, work on eliminating that risk."No personal computer will ever have gigabytes of RAM" - Scott NuddsComment

It always bust me up when people on a pro 2A site say that someone else shouldn't have a gun because they ASSUME they are bad shots, or are untrained.
Or the ones who insist they have extensive training before they can carry.
If training and shooting ability were requirements of owning/carrying a firearm more then half of you wouldn't qualify.
Does putting these stereo types and restrictions on others help you feel superior??
Arming teachers MAY be a solution if scenario based training is a consistent part of the requirement to carry. They at that point would be more trained than any patrol cop out there.
I grew up in the days when the Fire Department would come every other month to teach basic first aid to our school. Now most of us were more distracted by the shiny red trucks to listen but I imagine they could command more attention from schools if peoples lives depended on it.
While i'm on the fence on arming teachers I AM for arming them at least with tourniquets and chest seals and other trauma kits.
As most of us know an untrained 'school shooter' is most likely to point and shoot and may rarely get a kill shot with one bullet.
I have a feeling a lot of casualties just bleed out waiting for first responders to arrive.
If you have kids a tourniquet is easy for them to carry around and would be easy to train them how to use and apply and could save their lives without causing an uproar from either side.I would support this PROVIDED that the teachers & administrators who are authorized to carry are "properly" trained and I'm not talking about some 4-8 hr CCW course.
Each person should be proficiency tested at least annually and should also under go actual live fire "hot house" shoot/no shoot training scenarios likely to arise in a school setting to minimize (as much as possible) the mistakes that are likely to still happen despite such training.
This should INCLUDE everyone and NOT exclude anyone who "thinks" they already know how to handle a gun because of prior experience as a hunter and/or retired LEOs and military vet.
FWIW, some of the worse shooters of a handgun in my academy class were ex-military and there were many active duty LEOs in my Dept who seldom practiced and were minimally proficient in shooting a handgun. Shooting a rifle is also NOTHING like shooting a handgun. Just because you can down a deer at 100 yards w/a 26" scoped rifle is no guarantee that you can hit a "bad guy" under stress in a crowded school at 10-15 yards w/a 5" handgun.
The local government and school district would also have to be willing to indemnify and hold harmless any teacher/administrator who fires a weapon in the defense of him/herself and others while on duty to insure that those teachers/administrators are not required to suffer financially as a result of such action.I agree with you 101%. Teachers get training in teaching their subject (Math, English, History...etc); they don't have combat training or shooting training. That should not be a requirement and most teachers won't shoot accurate anyway, and many of them would object to carrying a gun or get involved in a gun fire.

If my sessions at LAX range were any indication it's a lot more than that. Up here in redneck central at least most of the people on the range can shoot."No personal computer will ever have gigabytes of RAM" - Scott NuddsComment

I get the joke. I know most librarians want to ban guns, well at least here in CA. I met one that had his dad serve for WWII and he is a complete liberial.I had to school most librarians I know on form 4473 because they believe guns can be bought from the *gun show/parking lot loophole". It's pretty sad I really thought they were high educated and open minded but most I met really, really , hate guns. I can't speak for all librarians but I am assuming only 1% are pro-2A.Last edited by deerdeerdeer; 01-09-2019, 3:34 PM.Comment

Mass shooters shoot it out now.
Last May in Santa Fe Springs, the school shooter took out the responding SRO and then engaged the responding patrol trooper. 30 minutes later, he was injured and surrendered.
The Pittsburgh synagogue shooter shot it out with responding officers, including a SWAT unit. He critically injured one of them before he was also injured and surrendered after retreating to upper floors.
And who can forget our most recent one in Thousand Oaks.Comment
