Ready, willing and training. Those teachers who are willing and pass some sort of training have a go in my book. I would even buy/give a teacher a gun and pay for a class.

Imo, as a last resort, arming teachers is a good thing.
Most teachers these days are snowflake liberals. Kind of a stopping point right there. Most teachers don't make enough time to do all they need to do for their classroom, add in shooting/training.
It sounds good, but I just don't see it as a viable option.
Arm the janitor, have a resource officer, etc.
My idea has been, we have a huge military.
Make it a part of basic training. Once they complete basic, mandatory 3 months armed standing in front of a school.
There's a million ways to skin a cat.....
I think there are better solutions than arming teachers.Comment

No one is suggesting mandatory training and arming all teachers. But there should be a way and accommodations for those of school staff who are willing and able to carry. This simply is not true. Some cops do but many don't. There are many cops that only shoot a couple times a year for qualifications. Many departments simply don't have the budget for ongoing and continued training. Especially the smaller departments.
Additionally, the notion that teachers would kill more students than perps is absolutely comical. 32 students were killed at Virginia Tech, for example. The notion that an armed teacher would kill that many students during an attack is so ridiculous it doesn't even warrant a response.
Lastly, there are certainly teachers that are not capable and should not be armed. But there are certainly some that are. We know, for example, that there are former military and law enforcement that have gone into teaching. Nobody is suggesting that this type of thing be mandatory for ALL teachers. And nobody is suggesting that the teachers not receive training.
Teachers come from all lines of life. Many of them can shoot, are able, and willing to carry if the go ahead is given.Comment

Well said, thank you. I don't agree with requiring teachers to be armed, but I am 100% for arming those that want to be. I DO think we need to have at least one armed person in the front office. Secretary, principle, etc... Or even a "satellite" police "station" on campus.......... only open during school hours. It's beyond sad that society has come to this, but it's beyond stupid to continue to advertise that our kids are helpless and unprotected. This is the textbook fallacious argument of the left. The fact that you (and they) would rather let a mass shooter just keep gunning down students until a SWAT team arrives 10 to 30 minutes later absolutely boggles my mind. Your willingness to submit yourself to a helpless victim mentality, and to force our children into that role, is unnatural. Sadly, your entire post illustrates the continued pussification of America.

Arming teachers MAY be a solution if scenario based training is a consistent part of the requirement to carry. They at that point would be more trained than any patrol cop out there.
I grew up in the days when the Fire Department would come every other month to teach basic first aid to our school. Now most of us were more distracted by the shiny red trucks to listen but I imagine they could command more attention from schools if peoples lives depended on it.
While i'm on the fence on arming teachers I AM for arming them at least with tourniquets and chest seals and other trauma kits.
As most of us know an untrained 'school shooter' is most likely to point and shoot and may rarely get a kill shot with one bullet.
I have a feeling a lot of casualties just bleed out waiting for first responders to arrive.
If you have kids a tourniquet is easy for them to carry around and would be easy to train them how to use and apply and could save their lives without causing an uproar from either side.MESSAGE ME FOR ARMAGLOCK COUPON CODES!!!!

So, I've seen on this forum people just complaining about how teachers are both underpaid or overpaid, leftist nutjobs, incompetent, and many other things.
Why would I arm these people who I deem not real world oriented (consider that most radical non-feasible ideas start in schools and universities) and expect them to protect my kids (which I don't have)?
And more importantly, doesn't anyone view this as a significant addition to the police state?Welcome to California; Where the liberals are liberals and the conservatives are too!Comment

I guess it depends on where you are. I am in Kern county, and the school district I deal with is more conservative than most. I'm not saying they should have police powers at all. I only want the CCW laws repealed, and if a well trained teacher wants to be armed, then I am ok with it. I would even back said teacher receiving additional training, and a stipend for being armed. So, I've seen on this forum people just complaining about how teachers are both underpaid or overpaid, leftist nutjobs, incompetent, and many other things.

CCW holders are in the most lawful segment of society, committing even less crime than LEOs on average. Why they are banned form CCW on school grounds is senseless....Comment

If they are CCW holders, subject to the exact same standards as you and I would be, that may be a better solution with the stipend program in mind.I guess it depends on where you are. But usually agents of the state in all forms are held to lower standards than you and I. Hence where the police state argument comes into play.Last edited by robertmneal93; 01-08-2019, 10:56 AM.Welcome to California; Where the liberals are liberals and the conservatives are too!Comment
