Usually it's "GUN, GUN"! and LEO firearms are drawn and pointed at you. At least here in California. Was there a box of donuts next to it?

I'd bet if the OP was not in uniform, the stop may have been much-less pleasant.

I've been pulled over 3 times while armed now. I don't say anything. Just hand him my DL and permit and then let him ask the questions. Although I still got a ticket one time, all the stops were pleasant. And in all 3 cases, the officers were more curious how I got it and the process and even how they might instruct friends or significant others how to get theirs.

FYI, I don't look 'white' either.

Who does that? What does that have to do with LEO reaction to legal carry in California? What thread are you reading?

Very true.

This is still as true today as back in the 1970-80's's when I was on the trauma team in S. Tahoe that received a Nevada State Trooper that had been shot in the back of the head with his own revolver.

Routine traffic stop turned into a fight for life (Trooper lost), the guy he stopped had just robbed a bank at Stateline and it hadn't gone out over the radio yet. In those days you usually got out of your vehicle and met the officer to chat about things. Hence the now stay in your car and hands on the wheel lights on.

You know it's not good when you try to ventilate a person and get a face full of brain matter, this was long before Universal Precautions, facemasks, gowns or face shields. Many times back then we didn't even glove up for resuscitations, that came years later.

NHP Academy still uses that scenario in training.
