    Stoped by CHP while armed

shortly past midnight driving over the bay bridge into San Francisco a CHP cruiser got behind me and turned his lightbar on , I can neither confirm or deny my speed at the time
I pulled off the freeway ( bridge ) and came to a stop near the Sales Force tower .
Because I was coming from my job I was armed with a Glock 21 SF on my belt at the time . I stoped the car , turned the interior lights on and then turned the car off , then placed both my hands on the steering wheel , one holding my keys , before placing my left hand on the wheel I opened both my front windows .

The CHP officer approached and told me the reason for the stop , I answered him that it was my duty to inform him that I was carrying a firearm on my right side .
Because I was in full uniform he asked me a couple of questions and then asked me for my driver's license , I asked if I could retrieve it because it was in my left pocket . He said yes , I handed him my license , he looked at it , thanked me , handed it back to me and that was the end of the stop .

The Officer was very cool , very calm and so was I , during the entire stop the tone was calm and cordial . Remember this was in the Bay Area . Great CHP officers are out there !!!

Yay! Treated the way you should be.
In FREE states cops must see this all the time. They don't freak out and shootings don't occur daily.

I am thinking the OP may be a cop/security guard or some type of uniformed public employee (fireman / bus driver/ public works etc...) and received some "professional courtesy". OP made purposely veiled allusions to his work uniform.

So you didn't inform him that you were travelling and ask if you were being detained?

Please spice it up in the future, 1/5, would not thread again.

Depending on his issuing agency, he may be required to inform upon contact with a peace officer. It's not a state law, but it is a common requirement of the IA.

Veiled? I can be a bit thick and it seemed pretty clear to me.

Yep, it's a requirement here in Orange County.

Contracted Private Armed Security , you have to wear your uniform to and from work if you are going to wear your gun on your belt , you can NOT cover patches or remove badge . Part of the contract I have requires me to inform Law Enforcement of my carrying of a firearm while in transit .

Is that the law or policy?

So he can legally carry a gun in SF, but is allowed to spell a simple word incorrectly ?
                              Where's the justice ?
