I'd bet if the OP was not in uniform, the stop may have been much-less pleasant.

So you didn't initiate the conversation with an Andrew Dice Clay impersonation?
No direct insinuation directed at the appearance of the Officer's mother or his intelligence level?

The problem is that California does not want to keep the violent criminals in jail... so LEO's have no idea who they are pulling over and add a gun to that mix.....

Non story. I want somebody with a ruddy complexion, bad tattoos, a last name that ends in -ez, with no uniform on driving a ‘98 Civic DX to come in with a similar story. Then, I’ll be interested.

I’m still surprised that this is surprising to some. It’s the way it is here in California at least 99% of the time (although I will admit I’ve never dealt with the issue of legal carry in the Bay Area or L.A., and I don’t know anyone who has). I carry whenever I’m in L.A. or the Bay Area, but I’ve never had any sort of LEO encounter while doing so. Has anyone here personally had a bad experience with law enforcement over the issue of legal carry? Or are people still just operating on pessimistic assumption?

In Utah no requirement to inform but recommended that one does just in case the cop finds it on his own. Might consider you hostile.

Man, chippies aren't even that nice to. On or off duty. I've had a few encounters with them while at work and off duty being pulled over. There are some real *******s in Orange County. But they are a very large agency so I'm sure they have a mix of personalities.

Btw, nice gun OP. I also carry a G21 SF while on duty.
