Pretty much yes. The risk assessment factors are what harm could the weapons cause to the officers? The lethality of a weapon is pretty much independent of its legality and the owners criminal record. Stephen Paddock, the Las Vegas gunman, also had no criminal record prior to his rampage.

To my knowledge he also didn't have anything illegal
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

There you go. I recall people saying FS has been the there inspecting ammo, looking for steel.

those are typically not local cops, those are federal BLM agents, and it is one of the provisions for the range to operate on public land. This is why there are the warnings at the check in office and the ban of +10 magazines.

plus, your gun is in plain view. they can't go searching in your car or closed up gun bag, but if the gun is sitting on the bench in plain view, the LEO can and will inspect it for compliance.
So State law still applies on Federal land? Anyone get an AW or "high capacity" magazine confiscated by BLM agents? CA DOJ can't go on Federal lands, can they? Asking for a friend

Not at LCFL. It's on USFS land, not BLM land.

The Forest is open to the public, which includes DOJ. The USFS lease to LCFL almost certainly includes a broad right to inspection.

I gotta give it to you OP. One post leading to 6 pages, well done sir . . . Well done!

And for the record when the DOJ comes without a warrant I will welcome them in from the cold with a cup of coffee or warm tea.

But to open the safe, that will take a warrant and a call to my lawyer.

                              Cheers!

One scary, totally overblown rumor always gets a good rile out of people.

Indeed, I too have a nice pitcher of iced tea for the friendly agents that might visit. If they want to see my rifles it's going to take more than a warrant, it'll take a trip across state lines to find them. I've even printed out a really fun treasure map with riddles to help them find it.
