I usually do a quick pass through when I get back home from the range, so when I do the real cleaning, things aren't caked on as badly. I have a bore snake for each of my calibers.

Well think about pulling it through the bore again and again. Each time you remove brass, powder etc and then drag it through the bore again with the last pass' junk buried in it.

I use them occasionally, but only at the beginning, I finish with clean patches.

^^^^ I might add that many(most or all really) bore solvents need time sitting in the bore to actually work well. This can be a couple of min or even a couple of hours.

I use bore snakes for a quick job and only one pass then the snake gets washed. No reason to drag the crud back thru the bore. I use them dry.

When I really clean I start with Wipe-out. let it set. Use a few patches to remove it. Then Sweets 7.62 or Barnes CR-10 no longer than 10 min and patch it out. Then Butches bore shine or tetra-gun or shooters choice and Kroil oil in a 50/50% ratio. Patch that out and follow with tetra-gun oil if I am not shooting the firearm soon. Then you have a clean barrel. This cleaning is needed if you are going to shoot copper bullets(Barnes or Swift) and you have shot regular jacketed bullets in the firearm. It makes for better accuracy and no fouling problems.

A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

It's the only thing I use to clean the barrels. Quick and easy and clean enough for me.

Use them correctly and they are great for their intended purpose.

I've never heard of anyone who hated them

I use them all the time, in all my guns.

Never again will I waste my time running a cleaning rod through my barrels (unless scrubbing out stubborn copper or carbon buildup)
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Are there different sizes of 22 boresnake?

I just tried to pass one through the barrel of my 10/22 and it wouldn't go through...nearly got it stuck

I use them for AR's because I'm not shooting for dime size groups, more for maintenance purposes. Spray on some CLP into the bore or the boresnake, running it through a few times and any issue won't be attributable to a dirty barrel. I'm also using one for my 9mm semi's...it's frigg'n Glock for chrissakes, could go thousands of rounds without cleaning but run the boresnake a couple times every 350-500 rds and again, no issues would be attributable to a fouled up, dirty barrel.

I use the same .22 boresnake in my AR's and my Marlin 60, no problems. The bores for 5.56, .223, and 22lr are all the same diameter. Maybe the boresnake got snagged on years' worth of lead fouling in the 10/22 barrel

it takes quite a bit of jumping and shaking to get the weight through my .22LR as well. The weight is just a tiny bit too big.

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

I have a dual pass boresnake. This is a brush on a weighted string and separately a boresnake without a brush. I cut their brush (a piece of crap) off and substituted mine with a little splicing and dicing. Now I pass my brush just like I did with patches. Then, I use the snake. It has hundreds of times the surface area and is much tighter than the patches. Two passes with the snake and when I look down the bore, it looks like a mirror. Couldn't be happier.
