Just a reminder about Real ID and buying Guns in Ca.

I say don't shop with Jake Belemjian owner of the Firing Line gun shop in Clovis. Lots of other stores.Let us hope our weapons are never needed --but do not forget what the common people knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government -- and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws."

My DL expired 3 weeks before CA began offering RealID in 2018, so I do not have RealID and don't plan to pay another license fee until I have to.
I purchased a new handgun on February 1, 2019 at a Turner's Outdoorsman Grand Opening without a problem. DL and vehicle registration for the DROS and it went through without a problem.
I also watched as another person purchased a handgun with a "federal limit apply" license and was picking it up the same day I did; so I don't know where people are getting the idea that RealID is required.
Just today (05/19/19) I heard a man say that you'd need RealID to buy ammunition starting July 1st. Yet, right on the CA DMV site for RealID it says.
7. Do I need a REAL ID to purchase firearms and ammunition?
If you plan to purchase firearms or ammunition and have a federal non-compliant driver license or ID card, you may need to show satisfactory proof of legal presence.* Make sure you check with the firearms dealer you plan to visit to verify their identification requirements.
Since DROS requires proof of residence additional to your ID in the form of Vehicle Registration or a few other items; I don't see this being a problem. Just a lot of misinformation and drama courtesy of the utterly ineffective California DOJ.
It is still wise to check with your dealer - some dealers are skittish about FLA licenses.
And note that the DMV section you copied says "you may need to show satisfactory proof of legal presence." A car registration is not proof of legal presence, nor are utility bills, etc. - adequate proof of residence, but not legal presence. That DMV section even suggests you check with your dealer.
For anyone with a FLA license, it is a good idea to verify that the FFL has no issues or may require something else like a passport. Heck, there was a thread started just this week where a PPT was refused because the seller had a FLA license: https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/....php?t=1525815
It's great that neither you nor the other guy buying at the same time had any issues - but that doesn't mean others won't have issues with other dealers.I am not your lawyer. I am not providing legal advice. I am commenting on an internet forum. Should you need or want legal advice, please consult an attorney.Comment

For those who posted earlier, the "Federal Limits Apply" licenses aren't supposed to be accepted (this clearly seems to depend on the FFL though) but if you have a license that predates the new ones it's still valid for purchasing a firearm. It's only the ones that actually say "Federal Limits Apply" that aren't supposed to be used.Comment

Thursday night I was whining about going to the DMV and finding out the birth certificate that I've have been using for 60 years was a "novelty, souvenir" . Then the next day I had to go to the LA county Hall of Records" ..Waaa, Waaaaa. Then my wife says "its all Trumps fault" ........
I really need to get out of the house and California....It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

That's not true. They are just going to be asked to submit a second proof of CA residency to the DMV, either through mail or online.Comment

I stocked up with all the ammo and guns I'll ever want.
I'll proudly show my real fake CA driver's license. I'll be prevented from entering any federal building. I'm OK with that 'cause now they can't arrest and take me inside because "Federal Limits Apply".
I've always used a passport anyway and carry a bill with my name and address on it. No way can I ever get the documents the DMV requires nor will I play their games. I hope several million "citizens" do likewise to send them the message.
Alternate ID's will be used here because the CA driver's license is not secure and will be made invalid once the feds find out how corrupt the issuance is.Comment
