Ask them for the name of their compliance office so that you can explain to him that Dick's made a mistake on the DROS that you were not aware of because they never gave you a copy of the Accepted DROS to look at.
When they start crying, tell them that if you are required to bring back the guns, you will be picking them up exactly 10 days after turning them in. Not 11.

You're on point as usual Mayor. The is nothing that Dick's has that can't be ordered by my LGS from Davidsons or wherever. And as far as demanding a re-DROS or some such... they wouldn't have to. I would be there as soon as I hung up the phone to make sure their honest mistake didn't cause them legal issues. Of course they would never threaten me with calls to the DOJ or any BS like that, we'd just make it right.

But you know, people will drive 30 miles to buy a $750 gun for $20 less from a big box store. The same people I assume that wait 45 minutes for save $4 on gas from Costco.

I would write a letter to their corporate general counsel, John Hayes, at john.hayes@dcsg.com. Let him know the situation, that it seems they made a mistake on their end, that you are not aware of any authority requiring you to bring back the gun and re-DROS it, but if they have any authority, they should provide it to you. Otherwise, ask him to have the store manager quit harassing and threatening you.
In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

To those who are saying that the firearms should be brought back and the DROS redone, have you considered that Dick's is wrong and that it really doesn't need to be redone at all?

I have been told that the name does not matter since the DMV name is what is actually used. The DROS has to be signed saying that everything is correct, but doing another one does not change the previous one.

Oh, ask the CA DOJ if they are going to come and get the firearms and the answer is NO, not based on what was said here. That means that Dick's lied and if they lied about that, then what does that say about everything else that they have said.

The question for Dick's to ask the CA DOJ is whether the DROS needs to be redone due to the typo in the name when the name actually used comes from the DMV records, regardless of what the DROS has.

This seems ridiculous, I told them I will call them back Friday. I dont want a gift card to that ****hole. Any FFL guys reading this and have input?
Well, he's full of it period. DOJ NEVER requires an 11 day hold.

Unless you want the $200, I say, just ignore their rude demands all together. In fact, if you really want to prove a point, find someone who wants your gun, do a PPT and go buy another one. Then, let Dick's try to figure out how to fix their records.

DOJ does not require 11 days but dicks does.

I'm gonna hold onto the guns and let dicks and the compliance officer work it out. I'm sure if I HAVE to do somthing the DOJ will contact me.

I'm never setting foot in that ****hole again.

I just got a call from dicks. My hunting license that was used to exempt the safety certificate wasn’t signed by me. They want me to come in with it signed and copy it. I find all this hilarious. I’ll go in and do as they ask, not a big deal, still funny as hell after reading all this. I wonder how many people they’ll be calling when all is said and done

Tell them you want everything in writing in detail with company letterhead.
Because you feel the store manager is theatening you.
Since the manager is saying the DOJ will come and get the guns. You want evidence that you did not do anything wrong and a letter from Dicks will be proff that they made the error.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

I had a similar thing happen after a new vehicle purchase. I wasn't driving back there. I told them they could send the porter over in the courtesy vehicle and I'd sign the paperwork at my house. They never showed up.

Just thought of something funny to tell them. Tell them you can't return the firearms because they said that the CA DOJ is going to be coming to get them and you certainly don't want to not be able to turn them over to the CA DOJ when they come. It would be hard to explain why you no longer have the firearms and you certainly don't want to upset the CA DOJ as this matter is so serious.

See how they deal with that. Both sides know that the CA DOJ won't be coming, but they might say something funny in response.

I would get this fixed, it's a headache down the road that you don't want to deal with. If you sell the firearm in the future, there's a good chance that the DOJ's records will still show you as in possession because the purchase/sale records won't match. At that point, getting everything cleared up is going to involve a lot of back-and-forth, finding receipts, copying records, etc. until you can convince them that you actually transferred the firearm. Get the records fixed, and then do a check with the DOJ records to make sure the correction has been recorded in their system. Whatever inconvenience is involved now is worth the time and trouble you'll save in the long run.

Hah, another disappointing story from Dick's. If you're reading this you probably already knew, but the name Dick's is not a noun, it's an adjective!

Good decision. I could almost guarantee that the DOJ is not going to call about a misspelled first name on an approved DROS.
