Dicks wants my Guns back

I never post for advise but this situation has me surprised and confused. On black friday I purchased and did DROS on 2 Savage bolt action rifles at Dicks Sporting Goods. Waited my 11 days per their store rules and took my new guns home. Fast forward to today 1/22 and I get a call from the General manager at Dicks. He informs me they made a spelling error on the DROS and need me to bring the guns back and re DROS them and wait 11 days to pick them back up. He says if I don't DOJ will come and get them. But that I should not worry as Dicks will make it right and its no big deal.

Anyone ever been through this? Is this legal? Do I have options? What should I know?

They wouldn't ask you to do this if there wasn't an issue with the form. I'd do as they ask.

Trust me that's got to be a hard call to make on their end.
I'd ask to speak to a manager and ask for a gift certificate to 'make it right'

Well i sorta had this experience once with Turners, but they only asked me to come back to store to fill out a new 4473. they had made mistakes on there info. I did and the gave me 50 rounds of the caliber gun I bought for my trouble.

I asked about this and was told due to new changes in CA law they must take possession of the firearms during the "DROS" period.

Ask for ammo as compensation for their mistake.

Do you have the paperwork that says approved? I would inquire with the store manager on what exactly was the mistake? Spelling error? Maybe a box wasn't checked that should have been? If it's something simple, maybe it can be fixed without having to do the 11 day wait again.

Yea... no. Aren't those rifles of yours already being stored in Idaho where you will be hunting with them.

I'd tell them that they get to fix the problem and if they need your signature, that's all they will get. They are bull****ting you about the DOJ coming to get the guns, and even if they did the DOJ would need to get a warrant first. Not gonna happen.

sounds like they are afraid getting audited and having records not match. Since it's their mistake I would definitely ask for some kind of compensation for my time.

DOJ won't come and take them. It was their fault. They're liable, not you. They could be looking at a fine or losing their FFL. See what the mistake is on the paper before you take the guns in. If they were smart about it all they have to do is get your signature on another form and fill it out correctly with the previous transaction number. There isn't another transaction occurring, so they shouldn't have to do another NICS OR DROS.

I would NOT re dros fix the paper work and be done, Do not take the rifles they do not need them. That's what I would do anyway.

Agree 100% with the above. Normally I would try to be helpful, as long as I am compensated.

But once they THREATENED YOU, they can rot in hell. I might even call the DOJ and ask them to audit that store
