Ditto. Plus family members and/or one guest accompanying you don't need to be members.

The 1000yd range has scheduled days and matches but also can be used if no one else is using the other ranges AND the access gate is closed (sign on gate states the 1000yd range is in use and the other ranges closed).
This happens sometimes in the early morning and it's good form to contact the user (a short walk up to the pad) and arrange an ending time so the rest of the range can open.
A little courtesy goes a long way and I've never had an issue with it.

They are "private clubs" not businesses open to the public.. there is a significant difference. What makes them more attractive and safer is that they are NOT open to the general public like a "public" range and that there is some "vetting and accountability" in the selection process.

I've been to Compton Rod And Gun's facility (but not in their range). It's surprisingly nice... you're driving through the usual Compton scenery, you turn a corner, and there's a huge well maintained lawn with a lovely clubhouse full of animal heads. Everyone I met was fairly cool, as well.

They have a "no female members" policy, which was a deal breaker for me, but if that isn't an issue, it seems to be a good place to join...

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

I almost said something earlier, but held back cause I did not want it to be misinterpreted. I drove throu that area once about 25 years ago. Not a place I'd leave my car unattended. Seriously.

Depends on what you are looking to get out of it. I work M-F 0830-1700 then spend an hour in traffic once I get home shooting is probably out. However I frequent WEGC on weekends, and for $90 a year plus NRA membership can't complain.

I live just down the street. I leave my cars unattended every night, and (gasp) my house is empty right now.

Thanks. That sounds more than reasonable.

I live near the end of I10 close to water. Considering the traffic these days being worse than black sites' torture, I doubt that i would even get to a private range or bother them more than a few times a year. But, it is nice to have a place without crowds to go to.

Do people typically pay & join when they attend the range orientation? I guess what I'm asking is that the orientation is for new members and not a tour for prospective members, correct?

The best thing you can do is attend one of the shooting matches on the weekends. You don't have to be a member to attend and/or participate in a match either.
That way you see the range, meet the people and decide if it's the right place for you.
There's a calendar on the website that you can reference for the scheduled matches.

If you decide to join you can do so on the website. You'll then get an email telling you to attend a range orientation and your membership package will be waiting for you there.

Dang, our local private range is $20 for the year, you get the combo.

and the other is a public range that holds CCW classes.

The rest of us just go out and shoot. Not knocking the whole deal, but I have never been to an indoor range, nor will I. God gave us the land, I go out and shoot.
