Ensuring you have enough of something is not hoarding. Particularly if you are still consuming that particular asset.

Are you hoarding ammo?

Hoarding is such an ugly word....it’s more like “investing” or “hedging” against the tail risk of economic collapse and the ensuing martial law. Ammo is currency when currency is worthless. I’m a hunter and reloaded too so I’ve ensured that I’d never be without ammo for my favorite guns...pretty much forever. .22 LR and 9mm will be like gold coins someday.Comment

I made my last investment in ammo today..
1000 5.56 and 1000 9mm plinking stuff..
The next time I buy ammo will be when I escape this wretched state .. lolMember: Patron member NRA, lifetime member SAF, CRPAOriginally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Comment

Today for many places.. it's not the date you BUY the ammo.. it's the date it ships into the state..
Ammo can't ship into the state to a regular Joe after 12.31 so many sellers are playing it safe.Member: Patron member NRA, lifetime member SAF, CRPAOriginally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Comment

Truth.I have determined that Sacramento is PRO GUN
They pass laws that make us buy more ammo
They pass laws that make us buy more guns
If all guns were cash and carry with no restrictions, we would all own many less than we own now. Same for ammo.
They must love people exercising their 2nd Amendment. They want us to have more.
(The only logical conclusion)Comment

Now that you put it that way.....
Some (or most) of us blow our ammo at the range - that's where the majority of our consumption is - not hunting or HD/SD...Comment

This has caused another problem for me: Where do I store it all?
I've already converted my smaller gun safe to all ammo, the large safe is about 2/3 full of ammo and is crowding out the rifles. I have 2 small Harbor Freight safes full as well. I have the parts to build a couple of more AR's and I'm adding another pistol so I need space. My trap gun sits in the case on top of the safe because I don't have room for it along with ammo that I can't fit in! I saw a large storage cabinet on wheels at Costco for about $280 and I have been looking at metal lockers (72x 36 x 18) to store in.
The end of the ammo supply problem created the ammo storage problem.
I really don't need to hoard as I have an FFL and COE but prices and rebates have caused me to buy. I probably have somewhere between 20K and 30K rounds of pistol and rifle. I haven't seen ammo prices at these levels for many years.I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...
