They are interesting, but I didn't like the grip angle at all.

All a matter of taste. I like the looks of 1911 more but I am more accurate with a Glock because the grip angle fits my hand better. Lots of people hate shooting Glock for the unusual grip angle, which is same reason lots of other people like it.
Hickok45 (RIP) had a video in which he is lambasting the Rhino for its looks (again, a matter of taste) but it gives it high marks for shootability, accuracy, light weight and last but not least, exactly what you don't like: grip angle and the way it feels in the hand. He says it's the best grip of all revolvers he ever shot.

S&W model 10 38 special, might be up your alley if your concerned about hurting yourself. ~$700 brand new.

also the SW Model 67. It's still on the roster I believe. It's a stainless steel .38 Special +P. It's lighter that the 686 which I also love and have two of. The 67 is a handsome gun and let's face it, 90% of the time you'll probably shoot .38 anyway even with a .357.

The Model 64 is a stainless .38 with fixed sights, another choice.

I have an old S&W 586 with "no dash" with a trigger job including Wolf springs. It is my favorite revolver to shoot.
With that being said, I would pick a Ruger GP100 over the S&W as far as more modern revolvers go. S&W revolvers have really suffered a lot in quality over the past couple decades.
Pick up a GP100 and shoot .38 special through it. You will be happy.

But that's just my opinion. Best thing to do is go to a range and rent as many as they have and decide what YOU like.

Adjustable sights? heavy frame for continuous diet of magnum loads?
There are many roles a good .357 can fill, but you need to be more specific as to what you need.

If you are really serious about getting a quality .357 Mag revolver, do a bit of on line research and find a S&W model 27-2. While not really common, they are available. Try to find one with a 6 inch barrel. It will make a perfect range, field and home defense gun. If you are in the greater LA area, I shoot at Oak Tree on a weekly basis. Be happy to let you try out mine.

Any of the revolvers mentioned above would be fine. Except maybe that Chiappa. It seems like a solution in search of a problem to solve. And I have it from very reliable but unnamed sources they are made from melted down Citroens. Whatever you get put Pachmayr (or equivalent) oversize rubber grips on it and it will be much more comfortable to shoot, especially with the hot loads.

That's what's at the top of my list of "What to get next". It'll become the companion of my .357 Marlin 1894CS lever action. BTW, I've also fired both a 6" and 4" S&W 686 Plus using .38 Special ammo. Fine firearms and neither will break your wrist.
