What to write on my paper?

My son had a California history class that was basically a class in how the white man is evil. Seeing who much BS it was I did all of my son's reports for him really turning up the "white guilt" and oppression stuff. Made up everything basically and he got all As in the class.

Tell them what the want/need to hear.

I think that's the wrong approach.

The way I see it, every paper you write is basically a declaration of your viewpoints, and as we've seen from some politicians who have written papers in the 70's or 80's and their words get used against them in the present day, it's really important to state your views when you write papers.
(or at least don't write anything that you can't really defend or wouldn't want to)
That's at least why I never bow for any professors.

Maybe I just go to a fairly conservative university though?

Because I do receive high marks on 100% of my papers, even when Kestryll and I basically co-wrote an essay about the history of Calguns as a policy advocation organization.

Easiest topic- WWI.

Lots of stuff can be found on the topic easily that most people don't know.

You can sound like a subject matter expert after a simple Ebsco/Academic Search Premier search.

One of the more interesting topics are the actions taken by officers on November 11th 1918. Despite being aware that the war would end that night, command still decided to launch minor offensives wasting thousands of lives.

What really popped in my head was "is this where academia is now? We're writing about what other people have written about some event instead of doing the research and coming to our own conclusions?"

This sounds like a simple assignment, not a final project. The objective of which may actually have been "learn how to look up articles/data", not learn the content. And yes, lots of types of research papers include a robust section of Literature Review, which discusses previous work on the topic. Typically this is in the scientific fields, medicine, psychology, where the paper itself is new data/experiments. But it can be used in the humanities, like history or art.

What period of History are you studying? That should be the platform that you launch your ideas and interests.

Post Civil War, 14th amendment, gun control is passed as race control, gun control has always been about control, show where armed blacks not hung like unarmed blacks, etc. MLK Jr. had many guns as well, etc.
