    First PPT Concerns

About to start the process tomorrow for a handgun on roster and the owner will be shipping from his ffl to mine. The guy seems genuine and has positive feedback from previous transactions but i guess im just looking for some more confidence from others here that felt the same way when making a large purchase sending money to an owner you've never met yet everything went smoothly. Do you guys recommend a certain type of payment for these purchases checks, money orders, paypal etc.

Is the buyer protected in any way in case something goes wrong and gun is never received after payment? Both positive stories and nightmares are welcome as i just want your guy's feedback on this topic. As you can tell i have 0 feedback so I must look like the worse off in this deal right lol

It sucks and I have also held my breath but as long as he's got solid reviews I believe you'll be alright. Have him send you a tracking number and insure it.

how are you paying for said item?
paypal does not protect the buyer for buying guns it's against their user agreement.

credit card offer costumer protection, but how will the seller charge your card?

maybe pay the dealer and have the ffl, be a middleman?

Is this a Gunbroker purchase ? I guess what I'm asking is how did you come to purchase this handgun?
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Would it be too much trouble if payment comes after the weapon is in the hands of his FFL and i call to confirm before it gets shipped? than pay in his preferred form?

I have both sent and received money (between 60 or 70 to over 2,000) and fortunately every transaction was smooth as butter.

Do your due diligence and feel the person out. Check out what others have said about said person (as a seller, not just feedback as a buyer) to get an idea of what to expect. The nice thing is, sometimes you can see what items that person has sold (if he/she didn't delete the ad).

If I'm a seller, I ship nothing for the most part until payment is received. As a buyer, I don't expect the seller to ship anything until they receive my payment. The only exception to this was someone I've dealt with before and he was quick to ship me a scope before anything. Another guy had me hold onto $750 for an upper I promised to sell him. 2 weeks later he paid the rest and I sent it out; can't imagine how he felt not having an upper and having forked over that much but he trusted me and I delivered.

Damn life is easier in the free world, no ffl required, no 10day wait, no fees. Just find gun you want on Texas gun trader, call dude, meet, inspect, give cash and handshake and proceed to the range to test and try it or go home a clean it. Can't believe how may people have sold me guns that I swear they never cleaned them the entire time they owned them, geez Some people.

PPT means person to person, shipping isn't an option. What are you actually doing?

oh i thought it meant private party transfer and didnt have to be person to person (buyer and seller). Well im trying to buy a on roster handgun from a guy in cali and he's willing to have it shipped from his ffl to mine. is that an option?

i figure the FFL is going to take down the guys info or probably already has if he's used them before so i shouldn't really be worried. sorry for making such a big deal out of this.

If on roster, it is ok (unless you were roster exempt LEO).

Some receiving FFL's prefer to receive from another FFL only, others are ok from a private party.

Is the purchase worth the added expense the FFL will tack on? You have your standard $35 fee but some FFL's add between $30-125 to receive from a third party.

thats a good question, the standard transfer fee is actually really cheap but ive read stories of some FFL guys tacking on a lock with a $40 price on it so i'll give them a call and get more info tomorrow.

Don't use friends and family. You have no recourse once the money is sent you can't get it back. Add the 3% to what $ you send and then you'll only have the problem of using Paypal for guns (a no-no by their rules). Dummy it up as an expensive guitar or something to get past their smell test. That way you can always say item didn't arrive and you'll get your money back. Postal money order has little recourse - you can file a complaint with the postmaster about being ripped off and they will investigate. They could arrest the guy that ripped you off but it won't get your $ back. Your FFL won't want to be the middleman - what does he get out of the risk? His FFL may handle the transaction - you give the FFL your CC#, he pays the seller and of course charges you some type of fee - this may also mean he has to put the gun in his bound book to show the transaction. Bottom line this gun better be $200 cheaper than anyother one on the market because you'll spend at least $150 on the transaction/shipping/tax/etc and $50 savings isn't even worth the hassle.
Contact all the FFLs close to you and find out
1 - if they will receive from a private party
2 - will they charge you tax on a occasional sale between private buyers
3 - how much their receiving fee is (DROS will be $25)
