Aww man, I was going to follow the Calguns standard operating procedure and make a post criticizing this FFL for whatever even though I probably won't set foot in the store (because I'm from down south), but now that the proprietors of the store showed themselves, I would feel really bad.

So, hopefully without sounding overly critical, with the operating hours being 4-7PM Monday-Friday, this must be a second business?

^^^ This is the more typical mindset we have to deal with, and I gotta say, I don't think I've come across a store who flips this on its head and being OK with tactical firearms but not OK with hunting. That said, it's a free country and even though it's California, we're all free to conduct business the way we seem fit for the most part, but with all respect, I think the same criticism against the Fudd who's fine with hunting but abhors modern semi-auto rifles could be made - no matter how kindly you make the distinction (and you certainly are nice about it) it tends to divide/fracture the so-called "gun culture."

The diversity of the gun culture is what makes it so great, so I don't think being in a particular niche is at all a bad thing. Yet, going beyond just not selling a specific product line (e.g., hunting rifles) can be taken as having a viewpoint being rubbed into our faces.

Gavin Newsom is a lying, cheating slickster and will be is the worst mistake California has ever made if he gets now that he has been elected Governor. Hollywood movie producers look to him and his oleaginous persona as a model for the corrupt "bad guy" politician character. This guy is so greasy, he could lubricate an entire arsenal of AR-15s just by breathing on them.

Sounds like a daily interaction at Canyon Sports in Martinez.

To the OP, we're sorry your first experience in our shop wasn't a positive one for you. We meant no disrespect to you or other members of our 2A community. Normally, we would have referred you to another local FFL who could better suit your needs. We dropped the ball here. We're glad UG Imports stepped up. We've heard great things about them. We've sent many folks in their direction and we're confident they'll take very good care of you. In your travels, if you happen to find yourself in our corner of the Bay Area, you have an open invitation to roll through and share a cold brew with us!

Thanks to those who took a moment to post your thoughts in this thread. We appreciate everyone's feedback. We're looking forward to meeting y'all too!!!

Good, now in the mean time do some proper research on hunting and wildlife preservation instead of insulting gun owners with the yelp pics posted by whoever is managing your account there.

edit: Well look at that, they fixed the pictures with the insults bit. Good. Hopefully they educate themselves about the rest of the matter as well.

                    I really can't believe I'm reading this.

So tactical, used primarily to kill humans, an animal...is somehow OK but killing other animals which are consumed in mass on a daily basis is not ok?!?!

I don't hunt land animals any longer because I think the odds aren't very even, but I used to and understand the drive and instincts are part of humanity, just as much as killing each other, only different. Especially in the eyes of a DA.
I love America for the rights and freedoms we used to have.

I have never killed anyone with any of my tactical rifles, handguns or pistols, and I have a lot of them.

                      Am I doing it wrong?

And doubly upset if a Ford dealer wouldn't sell me a truck because I planned to haul my killed game to the tagging station with it.

A gun is a gun. This shop refused service because of what OP wanted to do with the gun.

A joke of the first order. I don't care if they stopped in to say 'Hi' in this thread. I'd never set foot in the dump, and I'll make sure every person I know hears this story.

Christian cake bakers can be forced to make cakes for gay weddings but this guy gets a pass on a 'hunting' rifle? Give me a break.

Note to the FFL: you're in the wrong business.

Its funny how they say hunting rifle vs tacticle rifle, i use my LR308(basically ar10) for 80% of my hunting, then a 30-30 lever action when i run brush. Ive always called my 308 a hunting rifle since it is used for hunting.

Either way the store seems like a joke, they wont last long with that business, haha and that name dosnt help them either.

Won't work. They'll say, "Why should humans act like animals?"

But you wanted to know the reason. Who cares. Move along to someone that will accommodate you.

You stated it was a tactical store, but not good for hunting. That's an easy fix, don't go there for your sporting rifle needs.

In this instance I would not have outed the business since, as presented here, it was non-adversarial, and it was as simple as they did not do that kind of business. You didn't loose money, you were not jerked around, nothing bad happened to you.

Seems to me they were up front and honest with you about the type of business they did.
