PPT refusals

Got it. Thanks for the perspective. [emoji106]Weird; they might have done it in December due to the BB-items rush and I know they were limited by storage. Other stores were doing this or flat-out not doing PPTs on BB-items as quantities started clogging up their safes. That such stores were also turning down out-of-state transfers where they charge up to $100 to do the same, for the same reasons they were declining PPTs, gave credibility to their pleas.
I know THEY know the appointment thing is not legal, so hopefully that was merely due to the issues at the time. Regardless, they are not my go-to for PPTs - only ever did one with them as a buyer - but I have bought a few new guns there.
Service-wise, they have always been great. Good folk and always a pleasant experience. But like any gun store, results may vary. Some are worse than others. One Way to Post Pics ********** How to Submit an iTrader Rating That Counts ********** Brass for Sale

NO they can not. That is illegal.
I can rob a bank; doesn't make it legal. The fee is $10 above the $25 DROS fee.
That's it, nothing more - other than there is a caveat that they can charge a storage fee after the 10 days is up but would be a stupid thing in which to adhere. If they do, any such fees for storage must be posted in advance.

No, they may not.
They can charge a dealer fee for their own sales and for transfers from other FFLs, but California law states that PPT may be no more than $10 dealer fee (on top of the $25 DROS)

- What fees can I charge for handling a Private Party Transfer (PPT)? If the transaction is a PPT, in addition to the state fees, you may charge up to $10.00 or less per firearm for conducting the PPT. For example:
- For a PPT involving one or more firearms, the total allowable fees are $35.00 for the first firearm ($25 DROS fee and $10 PPT fee), and $10.00 for each subsequent firearm.
California state laws including the Business and Profession Code, Civil Code, Code of Civil Procedure, Commercial Code, Corporations Code, Education Code, Evidence Code, Family Code, Fish and Game Code, Health and Safety Code, Insurance Code, Labor Code, Penal Code, Probate Code, Revenue and Taxation Code and Vehicle Code.
28055. (a) For a sale, loan, or transfer conducted pursuant to this chapter, the purchaser or transferee or person being loaned the firearm may be required by the dealer to pay a fee not to exceed ten dollars ($10) per firearm.
(b) No other fee may be charged by the dealer for a sale, loan, or transfer of a firearm conducted pursuant to this chapter, except for the applicable fees that may be charged pursuant to Sections 23690 and 28300 and Article 3 (commencing with Section 28200) of Chapter 6 and forwarded to the Department of Justice, and the fees set forth in Section 31650.
(c) The dealer may not charge any additional fees.
(d) Nothing in these provisions shall prevent a dealer from charging a smaller fee.
(Added by Stats. 2010, Ch. 711, Sec. 6. Effective January 1, 2011. Operative January 1, 2012, by Sec. 10 of Ch. 711.)
Looks to me like even storage fees may not be legal.- Rich

a big issue is that we, the FFL are only allowed to make 10 dollars for a PPT..and there are times when it takes forever for whatever reason to do the PPT..and that means other people doing transfers have to wait and sometimes leave..and if its a slow day I make 10 or 20 bucks a day doing transfers..if the state allowed even a 20 dollar fee to the FFL we would be more inclined to do them..I dont mind doing them but there are days Im busy with appointments and someone wants to PPT 3 guns..and its a longer procedure..if its slow I dont care..but Im not a stocking dealer....07 FFL Farwest Photography

A member and I met at GD a couple weeks ago to trade handguns which meant two PPTs for the shop. We were done with both PPT in 20 minutes. It was very professional and friendly and I was happy to buy their $6 lock. I hadn't been to the shop previously but the next time I'm looking for a new firearm I will go there.Weird; they might have done it in December due to the BB-items rush and I know they were limited by storage. I totally feel for you. The state has bound you to perform an unprofitable task.a big issue is that we, the FFL are only allowed to make 10 dollars for a PPT..and there are times when it takes forever for whatever reason to do the PPT..and that means other people doing transfers have to wait and sometimes leave..and if its a slow day I make 10 or 20 bucks a day doing transfers..if the state allowed even a 20 dollar fee to the FFL we would be more inclined to do them..I dont mind doing them but there are days Im busy with appointments and someone wants to PPT 3 guns..and its a longer procedure..if its slow I dont care..but Im not a stocking dealer....
By the same token, we as customers are in the same boat, where were are forced to waste your (and our) time doing transfers at an FFL, unlike the transfer of any other personal property that can take place at our homes.- Rich

I generally don't have problems there but I've never tried to PPT there nor do I go often. I am not a WASP and they have usually been fairly pleasant to me what was the racist problem? I think one of the workers was a Filipina or a Hispanic woman too.
I'd think Santa Fe Gun or whatever that place is called would be high likelihood of a PPT refusal or problem.Comment

Let's just say some of the people that work there like to say somethings when they think people can't hear them. Santa Fe is only is still around because of his dad. He is a **** bag, who shot himself showing someone a gun. He is over priced and a *******. Not one other FFL in AV likes him. He rapes everyone who walks into his shop.I generally don't have problems there but I've never tried to PPT there nor do I go often. Heck you just described many guns shops in many different areas. PPT at most socal gun shops sucks.
I use a nice pawn shop that is fast as lightning and full of kind people.
I've been in and out multiple times in under 20 minutes. Helped my buddy do his first ppt Saturday and it was that fast as well.Comment

My record times have been 10 mins or less. Only ones that can do that so far with prepared knowledgeable buyers and sellers are Annie's Corona, Alamo and Ammo Bros if no crowd. Very nice and refreshing to deal with non crybaby knowledgeable FFL's.Comment
