went to visit and try and see if open this a.m.
2 rangers(blm) were turning everyone away at the entrance,citing rivco reg's and adding b.s. of their own in to boot.ranger 1 was a complete azzhat and rude to when i inquired what was reasoning.never seen this much disrespect from leo.
i made his blood boil when i said .."ok" i will go shot there on tuesday--pointed to maywood....he grumbled and drove off still being a azzhatComment

LOL! You must be the guy they were referring to.
I had a decent conversation with both of them, and the older ranger thanked me for understanding and not being upset like some other people. BTW, the younger caucasian guy is Aaron, by all accounts a very nice and helpful ranger who has had contact with other calgunners and worked with CG in arranging cleanups.
As I was told at the MV BLM office, SP is still open to off roading and hiking. Yes, they were letting people through for those activities.Comment

It's a two way street....You have a ton of idiots who also share that blm with you that simply don't give a crap about anything and ruins it for the rest of us who believe in taking care of a place we frequent to shoot. It's like getting a roomate that is a complete pig and never cleans up after himself....you cant wait to kick him out the door. I can see where they are coming from they've had enough of the idiots who don't care. Was there yesterday around 7:30am and the ranger was really nice to me. Told me about it being closed due to a fatality there because someone decided to go target shooting during Fire Season. He said it was a combination of that, the mess that is always there, and people not understanding what a fire closure is. It really sucks that they closed it because I would always go there to shoot and I'd go to the back early mornings where the dumbasses with cars can't get to. At least that area is going to be a nice place to go hunting now. I would go there during fire season to hunt for rabbits. Yes it is legal to hunt during fire season and it will be legal to hunt there even now that it is closed to recreational shooting.Comment

No someone died because they shot themselves accidentally or someone accidentally shot someone else, he didn't specify. Point is it shouldn't have happened because they shouldn't have been there anyways.

Sorry to disappoint you but I don't believe you can hunt there if it is clearly marked as a "No Shooting" area.
Also, the "someone got shot fatally at SP" story has been spread around here before. That would have been in the Riverside PE, and many here have searched for such a "story"... it just never happened!
