Apparently as of 2/16/17 restrictions are either lifted or at least not being enforced.

Wish I could fit a trip out there into my schedule, was hoping to go on 2/13 until my visit to the BLM office on 2/8 torpedo'd those plans.

      THIS IS THE PROBLEM!!!

Since Calguns and the other Internet idiots started posting maps, road names, gps co-ords... the place has gotten more traffic, more dirtbags, more trash! I've been going to SP since the 90s and I can promise you it is way worse thanks to publication of it online!

Agree...same with Nichols /El Toro, when I first started going there 3 years ago hardly any one there, next thing you know there's a post here on cg and it became a zoo and is closed down

          I could be wrong, but...

I don't think Nichols/El Toro was ever a legal shooting spot, from what I recall it was just a place people went and got away with it.

However, trash and growing crowds put a permanent end to that!

You think that's really the problem? I think your narrow sighted. If you can't see the writing on the wall and realize that even if the place was spotless and every shooter obeyed a the unwritten rule of picking up after them selves , the state the county and the city were going to shut down the place no matter what . All we are doing is alienating our selves from future gun owners that have no where to shoot and think that it's more of a hassle to own a firearm than it's worth. This I think is the problem , having people drive hundreds of miles from Los Angeles county and Riverside county to enjoy maybe 300 rounds of target shooting . It's just not worth it , why keep your secrets on a land that we are all entitled to use . If people want a personal shooting area buy your own parcel of land and you can make your own rules on who shows up and uses your land . Your like the guys on the charter fishing boats that get mad when people show up and crowd their favorite fishing boat. You don't own the boat .
Old problems are like dry poop, if you let the dry poop sit it doesn't smell but the minute you decide to stir the poop with a stick, the smell comes back. Moral of the story, Don't bring up old problems!

Now unfortunately, RSO will give you a VERY expensive memento of the occasion if they catch you there.
                Then said He unto them...
"and he that hath no 1911 designed by my servant John Moses Browning,
let him sell his garment and buy one."

And He said unto them, "Meh, it's a good start."

This has been the case for quite a while. There used to be spots to shoot and ride throughout the badlands between Gilman Springs and the 60 all the way to the 60/10 merge.

                  Those were the days.

Think what you want... IDGARA!!! My "myopic" view is based on a long history of visiting this location. I've been shooting there since the 90's, and I've seen the decline rapidly increase... no doubt in large part to the Internet!

BUT... I assure you that the "problem" has gotten way worse as the Internet has made spots like this easier to find. It's not just CGN... it's google maps, a FB page devoted to SP, and much more online.

I didn't think the state, county, cities, or their agents have the capability of shutting down federal lands. Yes, I saw the writing on the wall as you say... I've said so for years that unless we could educate the uneducated pigs (many from other cities and counties) we'd lose this spot! It's also why I have participated in every organized cleanup at SP in the last 6 years. The first such cleanup had perhaps 30 participants.

I never said it was "my" boat... but the "boat" is in my backyard and my fav local spot to stretch things out and teach my grandkids responsible shooting and the cleaning that goes hand in hand with it. Maybe if other parents and grandparents did the same we wouldn't have the problem we do today!

If you wish to destroy BC by carrying through with your "threat" ... go ahead and start a FB page with maps, directions, and geo co-ords... it will also be closed soon afterwards and you'll have to drive to the SSZS spot in Barstow! (which is also now on google maps!)

DONT BE THE PROBLEM, BE TO SOLUTION, TEACH THESE YOUNG GUN OWNERS HOW TO MAINTAIN A LOCAL SPOT, NOT DESTROY IT!

I hear you desertrider...We used to ride from North San Bernardino east to Banning/Beaumont or west to Devore... we'd barely touch any pavement... but those were the 70's!

                      I MISS THOSE DAYS TOO!

That may be part of the issue but the underlying culprit is the creeping urbanization of Southern California. Years ago there were miles and miles of open space in western Riverside County. There were lots of spots for shooting in the boonies. Today there are housing tracts, Lowes, Walmart, Applebees, Home Depot, Target, Starbucks, In-N-Out, McDonalds, Walgreens, Kohl's, Wendy's, Del Taco, Stater Bros, Rite-Aid, you-name-it sprouting up in what was once open space. This means that more people are shooting in fewer available shooting spots. This is not going to change. We are not going to go back to the "good old days". The rural areas are quickly being gobbled up by development.

Yep. The good times are gone. I used to ride dirt bikes in the wash area by San Timoteo Canyon Rd and shoot in the Badlands. You can't do much of anything anymore in So. Ca.

Coincidentally a few months after someone here posted GPS coordinates of my favorite hole in the wall shooting spot in the HD, I have noticed more and more people and trash there everytime I go. I can't be certain that the post is the reason but it is one hell of a coincidence. I usually shoot on weekdays and it used to be rare for anyone else to show up when I was there. The last time I was there 3 other shooters were there and a fourth showed up soon after I got there. One fellow I was talking to said he lived in Torrance. Unfortunately it's only a matter of time before there will be no shooting on public lands in So. Ca at all.

I predict Bee Canyon going bye bye too as people discover it and migrate there after the Steele Peak closure. Face it it's going to happen. Not posting about it on CGN or doing cleanups only slightly delay the inevitable for the reasons previously discussed.

Get used to Raahaugees if they can manage to stay open after all their problems or going to Lytle Creek. The era of free shooting close to the major population centers of the IE is going bye bye.
